Hi Jos,

My mare that we discussed on the "Lutalyse only option" thread finished the P&E protocol last Monday, the 7th. I had her checked on Friday the 11th (day 14 overall) and she had a 34 mm follicle and just a hint of uterine edema - we could just barely appreciate the beginnings of edema. Had her checked again this morning (day 17 overall) and the follicle was just a pinch bigger but not much increase in the edema. Is this normal? I would have thought she would have progressed a little better...

Update today if anyone would like to comment... The mare's dominant follicle is now about 38-39 mm and her uterine edema is a 2/5 with 5 being excessive abnormal edema, and 4 the typical "peak" one would see in estrus. This is Day 19 overall. Looks like she is progressing - just seemed to be slow at the beginning. We are hoping see a progression of her edema over the next day ot two and potentially ordering semen on Friday for a Saturday insemination.

If you are using an ovulatory promotional vehicle (hCG or Deslorelin) then you already have an adequately sized follicle, and you can see an ovulation occurring within 48 hours. Even without the promotional vehicle, I would not be surprised to see an ovulation occurring prior to Saturday...
