I have a mare that is 27 days in foal just took her progrestrogene level and it is 3.5 Low but not super low. What would you suggest? Give her shots? The old shots were every 5 days. Is there anything newer or longer lasting? or put her on regumate?
A single test is inadequate to determine levels. Hormone levels change during the course of the day, and from day to day. If you were to test the mare again you might find levels well in excess of 4 ng/ml. The other slight issue is that although 4 ng/ml is suggested as the "desired" minimum level, there is ample evidence that mares will maintain pregnancies on a much lower level - even as low as 2.8 ng/ml.
Thanks Jos, She is 20 years old and this is her 4th pregnancy.. never had an issue before. I will read your article, but would you suggest just waiting a day or so and retest her?

I hear this quite often... but think of your mare's uterus as a tire on your car. The more miles you drive, the more there is going to be wear on the tire... it is as a result of her having multiple prior pregnancies that you are seeing problems!
In order to get an accurate hormone profile it will be necessary to test 3 or 4 times a day for 3 or 4 days in a row. That's all explained in the article.
