I have a mare that I have been preparing for breeding. She has been on Regumate and is supposed to get her shot of Estramate tomorrow, but I am confused. The instructions from the vet are to give her the last dose of Regumate tomorrow and the Estramate shot. This doesn't make sense to me, but I am new at this. Is this typical? Any advise would be appreciated.

Yes, this is the typical protocol with the 8-10 Regumate treatment.
Be aware that some mares will ovulate even though they are on Regumate, and this can result in the protocol not causing the mare to come into heat in the anticipated time frame. For future reference, the use of P and E is more effective in controling estrus (heat) and pinpointing ovulation.

Thanks for responding. She has not shown any signs of being in heat while she has been on the Regumate. I will go ahead and give her the Regumate and her Estrumate shot today and she is going to be ultrasounded on Tuesday. Let's hope all goes well.:-)
