I read that temperature can be indicative of estrus cycle in a mare. Is this true, myth and if so does the temperature go up or down. |

I do not suppose anyone out there knows a good Equine Legal Attny located in Oregon? I have a dispute with an APHA breeder who stated, in writing, that she would refund my money; and of course now says no. Her contract is garbage and does not specify any info about fees.. refundable or non. Although having dealt with me, she has since changed it to specify. At this point it is the principle of the matter. This farm has lied not only to me but the public stating in a magazine article, dated in Nov 01(that one of her studs first foals will arrive in 2002 (research APHA online records and you will discover that they allowed two yearling to be bred and first foal was born in 2001). I could not even fathom someone allowing a yearling to continue with a pregnancy. The list of course goes on to the unprofessionalism. I know that this person is counting on the fact that since I am 2000 miles from them, that I will not pursue this issue. Sleezy breeders like her need to be shot, and due to this we no longer breed APHA horses. We will stick with AQHA, the competition is far better anyway =o) Thanks, if anyone out there can help! |

Have you tried to contact APHA? Getting them suspended from the APHA may be far worse for them. |

Amy, I think it is unfortunate that you have had this experience. However your comment about sticking to AQHA is a personal preference but please remain open minded that there are AQHA breeders out there that are dishonest as well. Lets not try to insult APHA owners and breeders here. You obviously got involved with APHA for a reason and I would hate to see you give up something that you once wanted over one dishonest person. Attorny William Brendgard is in Portland, Benjamin D. Knaupp is on Beaverton, Donald Armstrong is in Eugene...I have never used these attornys however they were listed in a 2002 Horsemans directory I have. I hope all works out well. Just sue the hell out of her and ruin her breeding program, just don't diss on all the other honest APHA breeders that have magnificent horses. |

I am a new stallion owner. Last year was our first & I had a firm managing him. A mare owner took her mare to this firms farm to be bred. I drove the stallion there for insemination. The mare owner was there and she said when we got there "I have signed the contract Given the check to the firm owner." When everyone was gone the firm owner could not find the contract that was in the lab room. I then sent the mare owner another one by me. (The contract states no refunds very clearly)The mare was inseminated 3 times that season. She never took so the lady tried another one. She said that one never took. She would try again the next year. I recently received a phone call from her wanting a refund due to the high costs of insemination. Not knowing of proper industry protocal I told her I would get back to her. After consulting with the former firm she said for public relations refund the fee minus $500. Which I did. Now the mare owner is harrassing for more money. The total fee was $1250.00. Does anyone have any experiences like this? But the mare owner thinks she is set because she can't find the signed contract but many people were present when she said she signed it? Thanks for any responses! |

What does it take to become an Equine Reproduction specialist? Do I need to finish my vet schooling to accomplish this? or just a Bachelors degree? Thanks |
