storms last night brought me a new black stud colt. my question is he appears to have a raddle in his chest never heard this in a new born is it possible he asperated a little during birth? was thinking about starting him on some penecillian not sure how much or how often any ideas?
you may want to get the vet out, you can not take chances with a new born foal. you need to have his IGg checked anyway (immunity) and this way the vet can see if the foal aspirated or not and take quick action to prevent pnuemonia. Congrates of your colt prayers that he stays healthy and strong.
Hi Jessica, we had a foal born last year who had a rattle in her chest, when the vet was out doing her ruiteen check i asked her about it and was told it was nothing to worry about, that it was probably just a bit of muecus from the birthing process and that it would clear within a couple of days, it cleared up just as the vet suggested it would.
