Okay well if you are like me you probably can't wait for the next foal crop to start arriving. I know most mares are still not very far along but I figured lets post pictures of the mares and studs they are bred to. I would like to see other crosses and get an idea of what the foal will look like. I will start: My mare Sissy sorrel: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Sissy%20004.jpg Bred to Cremello stallion: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/2ff680c0.jpg 4 months along My mare DeeDee sorrel: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/deedee3.jpg Bred to Palomino stallion: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Picture%20009.jpg 3 months along My mare Kadi palomino: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Levi%20008.jpg Bred to Buckskin stallion: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/buckskin.jpg 14 days My mare Honey palomino: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Honey%20019.jpg Bred to Champagne stallion: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/IMG_8627.jpg 14 days These mares are not yet bred but we plan on breeding them this month to: http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/IMG_8627.jpg Dallas -she is the one that had the filly this year flora. http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/1Dallas%20034.jpg Brandy bay http://www.yellowhouseranch.com/Levi%20005.jpg So that is our group of mares for 2007. what are yours? |

I'll go second . You're right....I can't wait! I have only one mare bred, she is due late February. This will be her second foal (ya'll know Buddy!). I think I've had Grace ultrasounded more times than most women do during their pregnancy. I get a lot of kiddin about that, but that's ok . She was just ultrasounded the other day, and at almost 4 months it was SOOOO neat. You could actually see parts of the foal (head, legs, ribs, the tail). My vet will be sending me the digital pics, so I will post those as soon as I get them. Amazing. In the mean time, here are some pics! Grace: Ultrasound-15 days: Ultrasound-30 days: |

Kassie, YOU are going to be a busy woman this next year!
always makes me beam when someone tells me Grace is pretty . She's the one I waited years to get. Sure wasn't planning on retiring her at 4 years of age, but that's ok. She's my girl. Grace was bred to QH, "Extended Invitation", a son of Invitation only. He's about 16.3. The breeders website is down, so I can't access his page. The new ultrasound pics I'll be getting are amazing... (Message edited by heatherck11 on July 26, 2006) |

That sounds like a nice match. I like Invitation Only he is very pretty. And yes I will be busy next year, but I was busy this year trying to get them in foal. One, Kadi, we are having trouble keeping in foal. Her progesterone is to low, but we take her in Friday to see if what we are doing is working and see if she is pregnant. I sure hope so I really like the stud she is bred to, he has done a lot in Rodeos and won some money. I thought it would be a good match since Kadi is a healer. I will post if she is pregnant or not when I find out. Heres hopping. |

Expecting three here, Sasha/bay roan to our palomino/roan stud, Avery/black??/smokey black to dark bay? (i.e.I don't know for sure but her mother throws palominos so she COULD have the creme gene) bred to Listolena/sorrel and Sage/grulla to Listolena/sorrel. Sage is due in February, I'll be thrilled to have one that early and something to keep me busy till the others come in April! Ev. |

I have a Red roan bred to our palomino for Jan. and also a sorrel bred to our palomino for Jan. I have my Bay tobiano bred to him for feb. And in March I have a dunskin bred to him and my perlino and in April I have my palomino mare bred to him and in May I have our brown mare bred to him and in June I am not sure yet but I am still waiting to see if our grulla mare took to our grullo- Bob Acre Blue and our black point dun mare to the same grullo. So some wher between 7-9 babies, and a few are pretty late compared to this year, had some problems with a few of the last mares even coming back into heat with babies at the side. Anyway to many to list their pictures so if anyone is interested in seeing who is bred to who you can visit our website www.brassfieldranch.com P.S. I am having a human baby boy on the 9th of August- our 2nd child |

Congratulations on your human baby Tansy . Sounds like you will have fun next year, full with the sound of pitter patter of little feet, and clippity clop of little hooves. We had a late start with some of our mares also. One we are having trouble keeping in foal, they other three we where not going to breeding this year but after we bough our new stallion decided we would breed them. We have them due in Feb, May, and 3 in June and 1 in july. So after reading the board we should have a fun foaling year with all these foals. I can't wait |

Tansy- congratulations! wow, I'm betting your excited about this baby, you don't have long to wait now! (here's hoping you have a speedy and uncomplicated delivery!) You also have quite a number of foals coming, and in January? yikes, I don't envy you that barn duty ..brr.. though Feb in KS, ha, not likely to be a picnic either. Thank God for cameras and a heated break room in the barn! We had real trouble getting our mares bred this year. We used a young stud on most of them and he just didn't get the job done. A couple had minor uterine infections which we had to get cleared up and then it was too late to get them bred. We'll find out today if we have two more on the way, I'm hoping so or hubby will be jealous, I have 3 in foal to his 1 at the moment. (that's cause I love my girls and take extra good care of them..lol) |

Thanks for your kind words; Kasha is a favorite of everybody here. We rescued her two years ago in horrible condition emaciated, lice ect. She was two then and unbeknownst to us quite pregnant as well (as a 2yr old!) so four months after we got her she foaled a nice black filly. I was amazed! But yeah she's just the sweetest mare now, we love her. Thought I'd tell the story behind her just for fun. BTW Kassie your horses are beautiful as well. See ya. |

Ok here's my homo tobi bay mare, Sierras Lucky Chick. She was bred APril 11th - 14th, so we are around 4 months now. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/canadianhorselady/Beckytrot3.jpg And, this is the stud,a homozygous tobiano buckskin named Skips Regal http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/canadianhorselady/skipstud.jpg I am hoping for a buckskin foal, preferrably a filly that I can cross in a few years with my homo tobi perlino stallion. QTS Hollywood Deuce: This is a picture of my yearling stud colt. He did very well at this years shows and ended up with 5 1sts, 7 2nds, and 4 Reserve Grand Champion ribbons. http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y4/canadianhorselady/1595BurnettBanner1Small.jp g |

THanks Kassie... For the cremello to be a cremello, she would have to come from two red based horses, or a non-homozygous black based horse. For example, if the sire and damn of this cremello quarter horse are both palominos, then it would have to be a cremello, but if the sire or damn has a black gene such as a smokey black and a buckskin, or a buckskin and a palomino, it could be perlino. THe sire and damn of my stud were buckskin and smokey black. Imagine this little fellow popping out of a smokey black horse !!! It was quite a surprise for both of them I am sure. Cremellos in general are a lighter color than a perlino. THey also have manes and tails that are the same color as their bodies. Cremellos also have two creme genes, so both sire and damn would have to have creme genes and passed them on to this foal. The creme gene only hides in a smokey black, so if your horses sire or damn was a chestnut, then your horse could not be cremello or perlino. Perlinos are a darker creme, and their manes and tales are darker than their bodies. In the paints, cremellos are so light that it is hard to see the white on them. If you look at my stud's picture, you can see the white on him stands out quite nicely. All else being equal, you can always DNA test your horse. I did that with my bay mare to see if she was homo for Agouti. It was cheap, and I had the results in 10 days. I mailed them all the way up here in Ottawa Canada down to UC Davis in California. You can check out their website for more information about color testing if you are interested in finding out for sure whether your horse is cremello or perlino. |

Debbie, thanks for all the info. I am pretty sure Koda is a double dilute, his mother was a cremello and his father was a perlino lol. So I guess he could be 50/50 either way. I am starting to think he is a perlino because the first time I showed him in halter I was trying to get his legs as white as his body and no matter how hard I scrubbed they stayed kind of an orangy color and his mane and tail are the same a little darker than his body. So I do plan on doing the UC Davis test thise year. I am really wanting to know what he is. The breeder registered him as a cremello. I guess we will see. We have a champagne stallion, and this weekend we are picking up another champagne Tobiano stud we bought. I am very excited about him. I will post pictures when we get him home. |

HI Ashley, I like your mare. My neighbor has a appy mare that looks similar to yours. She is the sweetest thing. My mare is Arab, but I bred her to a homozygouse(sp?) Appy stallion who throws "loud" babies even to non-appy mares. I love both the breeds and since I ride distance sports, I wanted the best of both breeds! My mare is about 140 days pregnant. |

Jan: My mare's registered name is Sierra's Lucky Chick, out of Sierra Dazzlem up (Buckskin Tobiano- Sire) and Poco Skippa Chick (Bay tobiano- Damn) The Lucky in her name comes from QH Lucky Digit, who sired Poco Lone Star Dandy, which was the sire of Poco Skippa Chick. Deb |

My Becky mare is just past 4 months. I am planning to reultrasound at 5 months when she has her first Rhino shot. She lost last year's foal somewhere after 3 1/2 months and 5months, and an ultrasound this year at 60 days showed the foal to be smaller than normal for that gestation, so, Im keeping my fingers crossed that she holds onto this foal. One way or the other, she sure is putting on some belly, so Im hoping for a buckskin homozygous tobiano filly out of her to eventually cross with my perlino homo tobi stud. Deb. |

Kassie: Im thinking you are right about the perlino part. I looked at his pictures and he does have a slightly darker tail, though that could be from staining. I can't tell what his mane is like from the angle of the picture. Since both his parents are dilutes, then he is obviously also dilute. Do you know what his grandparent colors were? Deb. |

Yes on the fathers side it was a Buckskin and a Palamino, and on the mothers side it was a Palamino and a Palamino. The picture I took of him was after a bath, and I scrubbed his tail good so the tail is not stained. I even used that blue stuff that makes white whiter and his tail still stayed orange. His mane looks the same as his tail. I am goint to do the test this next week and send it in. I really would love for him to be a perlino. For him to be a perlino how would the gene test read? |

Kassie, Here is a site for a perlino stallion. From your pics, I'd say yours is as well....with all the creme genes in the lines, it makes sense. http://www.premierpub.com/finder/qh/i/invest-in-rodeo.htm |

OK.. if he has buckskin and palomino on the mothers side, he could have inherited a black gene from the buckskin, which would be an E, and from the palomino he inherited a red gene e. He could also have inherited a red gene from the buckskin if it is not homozygous for black.... from the two palominos its red genes only since the palomino is a diluted chestnut and has no black gene to give. Therefore, your boy could still be perlino if the buckskin threw a black gene. Otherwise, he is cremello with all those red genes floating around. His genetic makeup could be EeCrCr for perlino, or eeCrCr for cremello. Deb |

Thanks, I have printed the UC Davis test to send in and see if he is Perlino or cremello. When I get the test back I will let everyone now his true identity . |

Hi everyone I have been reading other threads and found this one today. I have a Quarter Horse that is expecting a foal in Febuary. I am so excited. This will be not only be my first but as far as we know Charlotts first. She is bred to a Percheron named Zain. Charlott is an AQHA bay. She has not had an ultrasound yet...she will get one in a few weeks when she goes in for her 5 month Rhino shot. I can't even begin to imagine what the foal might look like. Guess I am afraid I will jinx us. I have read alot and know that nething could happen...so at this point all I can hope for is a healthy perfect baby. Here are the pictures of our mare... and the stud she is bred to... this is Charlot last summer http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k62/heatherlovesgerald/f3369468.jpg This is Zain last summer http://i85.photobucket.com/albums/k62/heatherlovesgerald/d0601628.jpg Any information that u think might help us as far as what we could except would be nice. I have done alot of reading and talking to out vet but sometimes little things can be the biggest help |

Nancy your appy is really pretty. I could not get the first picture to work however. And thanks for the compliment on my gals. The palomino mare Kadi is a Tn. Walker. We like her a lot she has awsome gaits. We bred her to a Quarter Horse this year. It looks like my mare DeeDee and your appy mare are going to foal close together. Is this her first foal? It is DeeDee's first so I have no idea what to look for with her, it should be fun . I like appy's I almost bought an Appy gelding with a large blanket he was a dun. Really pretty, looked a lot like your mare only dun. Did you breed your mare to another appy? |

Thanks. Sorry about the first picture. I don't know what the deal is. I actually have some newer pics on my cell but I don't know if I can download them. I used to have a palimino qh but she was really old so I donated her to New Direction Farms in N.C. a place for teens. The vet said she had foaled before but I don't know how many times. She is an 8yr old. and yes she is bred to a appy. stud you can see him on Stylishstables.com his name is Ten-E-Silver. This is my first foal and I'm excited and nervous. |
