Could someone maybe tell me what they think is more accurate...a ultra sound or a palp? My horse is out of heat now, so I need to start couting days to take her in and I was just wondering what your opinions were. Thanks!

Ultrasound hands down (no pun intended! :-) ) - assuming that you have someone that knows how to use one! :-)

I plan on taking her to the vet to have him perform it. I am getting so confused by her though. She kicks and runs from our stud, no winking or peeing, but is lifting her tail, when I put her in the other pen, she pees. What is that all about?

  1. Some mares display estrus-like behaviour as a sign of submission.
  2. Some mares (Arabs for example) will lift their tail whenever they are "spooked" or are running.
  3. If you are seeing these responses when you are not actually teasing her with the stallion, they may mean nothing at all.

She is 3/4 arabian, so thats probably it. DUH! I have 2 mares covered and one left...I'm crossing my fingers that they all stick.
