Hi! I was just wondering if your foals are lazy or not? Riley just doesn't really do anything boyish I guess. He is in a pasture with his mom(who is really calm-mellow) and then goes out into the big pasture with a gelding and a mare almost everyday. He runs sometimes but not as much as I thought a baby would run! He is 2.5 months old...is that when they start calming down? He used to run more. Yesterday I had to push him out of the corral so he'd go into the bigger pasture and go eat with mom. He is healthy and everything so I was thinking maybe it's because his mom is so calm that he just follows suit?
Thanks

Hi Elena,
I've got a colt just like yours. Mine is a mellow fellow. The saying around my place is, that "if you didn't know any better...you'd think that colt was sick". Let me tell you...he's not. I've pulled blood a handfull of times and had it run simply because I was dumbfounded at how quiet my boy was. He doesn't even flinch when I take his temp now (don't even need a halter).
He has his moments where he kicks his heels up..gives momma a hard time and such. But, mostly he wanders quietly around. When stalled, he is often found sleeping...I can go in and do anything to him.
My colt is now weaned...and an absolute pleasure to have.

Ya, I love those types of foals! Normally if they are like that now they will be like that forever. Enjoy the babe!
