I posted this earlier hoping to get some decisive advice, but I will try again. I am unclear on whether or not I should be deworming my mare right now. She would be around 28 days or so. If not, when is it safe and what product do you recommend? Thanks. Molly |

If I were you I would ask myself if my mare is still on a regular worming schedule; if she is I would go with the schedule. But if shes off the schedule I would give her a wormer soon. Probably a Ivermectin wormer. I would want to be safe than sorry. From personal experience our mares were at 30 days and our vet us wormers and said nothing. We ultrasounded again a couple of weeks later and the embryos were great. sorry im not jos though |

Thanks Daniel. She would be a week past due for deworming, so she probably isn't too bad off. Yet. I just thought I read on here once before to avoid toxins and that sort of thing in early pregnancy. I know to avoid organophosphates. Molly |

I personally deworm before breeding and then wait until they're 90 days pregnant to be on the safe side. Just like humans the first 90 days is when most of the basic critical body systems are developing so its often advised to avoid as many toxins (dewormer, vaccines, certain types of fly spray, ect.) as possible until after then. |

You should not introduce any toxins, such as vaccinations or dewormers, to pregnant mares for the first 90 days. |
