Our 23 yr old mare (this will be her 8th foal) is due any day now and has been showing signs of impending labor for the past week. She is waxed, soft in her hips, baby dropped, etc. She rolls frequently and looks to be fine with the whole situation and just as patient as can be with our poking and prodding. Yesterday, we noticed a discharge come from her that had the look and consistency of mustard. It was only a small amount, but enough to cause concern for me to call the vet. He said not to worry it was a mucous plug. Now I have 3 children and no mucous plug looked like mustard. Should I be concerned?
I saw my mare pass her mucus plug and it was a pinkish color and very thick. not at all like mustard. I dont know if the plug color differs from mare to mare or if they all look about the same. I think I would call your vet and ask them just to come and check her out to be on the safe side.
