I thought I would start a new thread so we can all keep up with all the foals that were born. See how they are growing and learning, and also being stinkers (as mine tries to do!!!lol) Magic is 4 weeks today and he is doing really good. I love him so much! He knows how to be and angel and he definatly knows how to be a stinker. He leads good, not great but we are working on it. He loves humna interaction. Very verbal when we go out and check on him. Mom is doing very good. She is a very good mom and very strict on the little guy. She will give him a good bite on the bum when he is to rough on her when he is eating. I could not believe this but when he was a week old he was trying to mount his mama. I about died. He was even in the right position. I had to call a friend over who is experienced with foals and he said, it's a colt thing!! he constantly tries to bite, I am at a lose on how to break this. We pop his nose when he does it, so now he tries to do it when your not paying as close of attention. Is there anything I can do to stop the biting besides popping his nose? Well anyways here are some updated pictures of him. The first one is him and our goat. I think they are trying to prove to each other who the boss is. He is 3 weeks old here. These next 2 are from yesterday. He was watching my son ride his mom. He wasn't to sure about that!! |

Donna, he is SOOO CUTE!!! He is going to be built when he's grown!! Love his rump!! The pic with the goat is adorable!! My little girl is one week old today and I can't believe how much she has changed. She has started the biting thing already, It was cute the first three days then I think her jaw muscles started developing!! ..So now when she starts to bite I just take my hands on both sides of her muzzle and kinda squeeze and "ruffle" her muzzle (does that make sense?) She doesn't like it too much and she'll sort of back away and look at you...I'm trying to teach the kids to not let her bite, I said it may be cute now but soon she will be able to take a chunk out of you!! It's so hard to disipline them when they are SOOOO CUTE!!! She loves to run!! I'll post my newest pics tomorrow...I hope everyone else will post new pics of all the babies we were so patiently waiting on!!! |

Donna, What a handsome boy he is growing into. My first foal was a colt also. When he started to try and mount mom my 12 year old daughter was like get him fixed! Since he was my first and I was clueless we decided gelding was our best avenue. He was done at 4 mos. so that he could get comfort from mom for the next month....it was the best thing we ever did! |

Sandra- Thank you for the compliments. I love him so much even when he is onery!! Grace is so cute. I can't believe the colors she has! was she that light colored on her body when she was born? (behind her front legs and back) I wish i knew how all the coloring worked. Angel is blue roan and the stallion was a paint, have no idea why he is colored the way he is! I was shocked when he came out of her. Anyone have any idea's if he will shed out differently or keep the color he is (i don't even know what it is called, I just call it red!!lol) I am extremely novice at all this. Jan- I've thought about gelding him but my husband thinks the longer you keep them intact the more muscular they become. But if he keeps up this kind of behavior, I will have to go to war with my hubby!!! Stormy- Thank you, it is unbelievable how fast they do grow. I don't see it to much because I'm always looking at him, but when I look at his newborn pictures I can't believe how much he grows. I thought his main would've grown out some, but it stays the same. I guess he likes the spiked look.lol |

Donna, Grace has been colored like this since she was born..My husband loves it and is wanting her to stay that way but I've done some research of the Grey gene and I think she will grey out. I'm sure she will go through some awkward colors between now and then..It's really neat how it works.... |

Kathee and Donna, thank you for your nice comments. Annie is a great mother as well. We have had two foals from her, but she has had four so far. We saw her foal before we brought her it was a black and white filly alot like her. Annie has had two bay and white foals for us. We are waiting to see what color she would produce beening breed to a palomino and white stud. Annie has only be breed to black and white, sorrel and white and bay so far.Annie is a homozgyous mare, so she will always throw color. The 2005 colt is homozygous as well for the tobiano gene.We love all horses, but paints are my personal favorite. See Annie last year foal on site www.photobucket.com/albums/e329/MBhorses/MBAnnie2005colt take care, melissa |

Fred, You're darn near making me a mule lover by those precious pictures! I haven't seen anything that sweet in a long time. Is she as darling in person as in her pics? Ok, I'll add a pic too. It's not a good one, since he's walking away. He wasn't in the mood to take pictures. But, you can see how BIG he is! Someone is sneaking Buddy Miracle Grow... Lori- that colt is just HUGE! He looks great! Sadly, I may be selling Cisco. There's a man in Colorado that is willing to give me a good price for him AND come pick him up. Hay prices are going up each month and it's purely an economic decision, someone has to go and it's either him or my yearlings which are much closer to being useful and would not bring much right now. I'll try to get some updated photos of him before he leaves me! Ev. |

Lori and Kris- I'll do my best to get some photos of Cisco, I'm not 100% sure he'll be leaving now though, the gal working the deal got a little pushy and my husband balked ( she was wanting one of his Listolena colts as well but not wanting us to meet the actual buyer ) Anyway, Kris, if you want Cicso, you need to get in touch with me, he might still be for sale!! I'll drop back in here on my lunch hour to visit if I can! Ev. |

Ev, don't blame you for not wanting him to go unless you meet or at least talk to the person whom is buying Cicso. I would be leary on that as well and if she was pushy that would top it off. Good luck! I see hubby must be feeling better now. Great to hear! All the other foals are okay? |

hey everyone, I haven't been on the site in a while. Jake (Patty's colt from April) has been doing well until last night. Can anyone give me some advice to why his hind legs started swelling yesterday evening? I had to feed late last night and noticed his right hind leg was slightly swollen from the coronet band up to the hock. This morning when I fed both hind legs were very swollen from the coronet band up and including the hock. He has some heat in them but does not act like they are bothering him to walk. Everything else is still normal, he is eating and acting as he usually does. I will try to take some pics of him in a little while (if my little boys will permit it) so you can see. Please help if you have any ideas, I am going to make a couple of phone calls and then call the vet. Thanks for any help!!! |

Cconner-do you know if hoary allysum is in your area? my first thought if there is no injurys would be hoary allysum..do you feed alfalfa or alfalfa grass mix hay or have hoary allysum in your pasture?I have had horse react like this from it. just thought id throw that thought in. EV- whats the asking price...maybe i can work out a deal with hubby that he can go south to buy a tractor if i can a horse...bribery works wonders with him...especially when it comes to tractors!!! cisco is (was...we havent seem pics for awhile...) beautiful!!! nicely built... ev- what do you think of Jerichos legs? I did not use foal aid, i used and equivelant called rejuvenaid from progressive nutrition, and buckeye competitor...seemed to have worked! he has a vet visit on july 3rd to have them checked out by the vet and all his shots...hell be almost 12 weeks at that time...anyway do you think they lkook ok now? (since you said you have had some with bucked knees) |

Kris- I think Jericho looks much better to me and I still think that those legs will continue to improve. We had one just last year that was worse than yours is and by the time he was a yearling he was just fine. Cisco will be leaving on Monday, apparently the folks in CO really want him badly, I probably priced him too low at $1500 but in this area, that's a really good price for a weanling unless you have a mare/sire that have done a whole lot and won big money. My thought is this, if they take him out there and show him, that will just improve the value of Sage and her future colts with Listolena. It's probably a good thing that Sage will be in Wyoming with me as the buyer wanted to see her too and he might make me an offer that I couldn't refuse. The other thing that influenced my decision to part with him is hay prices, we have to cut our numbers and it makes more sense to sell him rather than the yearlings that I know won't bring anywhere near what Cisco did. In six months the yearlings will be ready to ride and THEN I can sell them for closer to what they are worth. Kris- Sage will have another foal in Feb, if you are truely interested, please stay in touch with me, this one COULD be a dun or a grulla, but if it's a filly, I'll likely hold on to her. Lori- the other colts are doing fairly well, we have all but the youngest weaned but have been fighting a respiratory thing with the youngsters this year. (it's been a bad year for bugs in our barn this year for some reason) We had one colt that was born that we had to put down, he had some sort of neurological problem, his tongue was always hanging out and his back legs seemed weak. He was as cute as a button, I lovingly called him "Dopey" until he was no longer with us. Otherwise, they are doing fine and eating like swine rather than horses! We're off on vacation to WY next week, so I'll post when we return to let ya'll know how the sale went with Cisco and if he's truely sold or not. EV |

Hi Everyone...Riley(my 2.5 month old colt) is doing great. When I read about all the babies running around I wonder.."why doesn't riley do that?" he is very docile and calm and super sweet. He sleeps alot and spends a lot of time standing in the goat shed. He'll run around for a minute or so but then he'll stop. He's not like a boy at all! His mom is very calm too so I think that may be why. He is so smart and that clinton anderson video works wonders we can: Send and do half circles, flex(lateral flexion) to both sides, lead, pick up both feet, move FQ and HQ with driving and steady pressure we can do a twirly thing that I can't explain, he backs up from his nose, chest and halter, stands for grooming and fly spray and has to baths! he's also very very confident and will go on tarps and ramps of horse trailers. He is so cute and loves to be loved. He gives me kisses!(nose to nose) I am thinking about not gelding him for a while if he keeps behaving so good. I will try to put pictures up soon he is growing a lot and is changing colors on his butt.(right now he is a light light palomino.) |
