The arrival of "Isabo" The prettiest little molly mule you have ever seen. She was born at 0124 this morning, 3 Jun 06, on the 350th day! :-) Here are some photos at 6 hours old. She was trying to stand about 4 minutes after she was born and finally figured out where she was supposed to suckle at 57 minutes. Mom has been super. She kept tyring to help Isabo find the right spot by moving into position for her to nurse. She has just been great!

Well Fred, I belive you are right - that is one pretty molly! I have been waiting for her since the whole "mule vs horse" discuss a couple months ago. She is beautiful - love the ears! What do you predict on her final color?

Boy I don't know. Mom is a red roan and dad is a red roan, so what do you think? She is a dark bay color right now. She's a sweety :-) Do I sound proud? :-)

She is so Cute! I've never seen a baby mule before. I'm expecting one of my own, so I was really wondering just what they look like. Congrats!

Laura I don't mean to offend you, and your probably well aware but mules are wired very differently than horses. They need to be handled differently, less so as babies , but defintely as they get older. They will test you big time and see what they can get away with. They are way smart and need to see a purpose in their training and not be forced into anything. You probably already know this so please don't be offended.

Fred, Isabo is beautiful as are all of your little mules! Congrats! I'm curious, do you breed them for the purpose of riding, like you would a horse? I read your above post that says they are way different than horses, which I'm sure they are. I checked out your web page of them all from your old thread and was blown away. You have some really beautiful creatures on there!

Thanks but I only have the one mare. The website I posted was of a mule farm over in Stevensville MT. I posted a link so folks could see some mule babies :-) Wish they were all mine. I just have the one baby and one full size mule. Yes my mules are saddle mules, but just like horse can be used for packing and driving and farm work. I just like riding them. Thanks a bunch for the compliment.

Fred, I'm not offended at all. I do know that mules are different, but if I hadn't, it would have been terrible if nobody told me and I had messed up on handling the little bugger. Fear not, I'm used to colts testing me, I worked at a lesson/training stable for three years, and they had a few young horses that loved to test! If I really think I'm in over my head, and I just might be, I'm not afraid to ask fo help. At least I have had some practice, if not with mules. The tricky part is going to be keeping friends and family from reversing my training, I don't think they all quite get how important it is.
I honestly have no idea when the colt's due, I bought the mare bred with no due date, but it should be soon (I hope). She's a maiden, so the signs might not be too clear beforehand.
