Hi!
Just wanted to give people a little reasurrance and hope to introducing their foals to their geldings by telling my story!
My colt foal is a month and a half and lately he's been eating the pasture down with my half arab mare and his mom and my gelding. I was really worried at first because I've read stories on here, but Red has always been pretty nice to him. Yesterday though, Riley was following me and my half arab around and Red stopped eating looked around, neighed than ran up to him to be by him. This was BEFORE Riley(the babies) Mom came over. She came a minute or two later. Then Riley kind of walked off and was pretty far away and he got a little scared and whinned. Red(the gelding) was the first one to respond. Then Riley whinnyed again and Red then Aspen(Rileys mom) whinned and Riley ran up to red then to aspen! It was so sweet. Red checks on him too. So geldings can be great baby sitters. Just make sure to keep a close eye on them at first! Good Luck!

Elena - I wish mine behaved like yours because my otherwise docile gelding just tried to stomp my filly into the ground today! I wish I knew what made some of them act that way. I have heard lots of stories like yours of these great babysitter geldings. I wonder what makes them behave so differently.

Hi All,

We have an AWESOME gelding. he is 5 yrs old and he loves the little ones. We have several little babies running around and they are all out together.. Even with our stud. They all run together. Our stud and gelding are best friends and they hate it when they have to be seperated.

Our gelding is like a big baby him self though. LOL. he gets into everything. he is a black and white paint and gets into everything.. while we were building the barn, he would walk up to the truck, pick out something he wanted a walk off with it... come back and get something else. LOL. He is really a character.

One time we had a lawn chair in the back pasture because we were watching a new baby, well he walked over to it after I went inside and played with it until he actually broke the cloth pieces that you sit on, so here is this aluminum chair sitting there and he sticks his head in it and lifts his head up and the chair is on top of his head around his neck.LOL
He runs around playing with it. not scared at all. he would drop it and pick it up again. he also likes to put his head in buckets and spin round and round while he is int he pasture... Just a big kid!!

Hello,
Our gelding has been a great babysitter for our 2005 stud colt. The two are always together in the pasture. I hope the gelding does as well with this year filly foal. The stud colt is the paint with the bay gelding. We weaned him at 5 1/2 months put him with the gelding and a mare, but he is buddies with the gelding.you can see them at
