Well, the vet just left, and my mare is completely open. I think in a way I am relieved, since we didn't know she was pregnant along the way....

Now, I need to get my QH mare to the stallion this year...

I am sorry Michelle, but look forward to seeing who you breed her to. She will give you a very nice colt. Good luck and keep us posted I will be following your mare this year and we will share foal watch next year. I know it is disappointing...but look to the future! It is a wonderful journey!

Well, at least you know. And now you can get her on a diet so she can get trimmer before she founders or something. Hey and you can train and ride her without worrying. I hope mine comes up empty too. I think about how much more money it is to raise a foal versus buying a horse already trained...Heck her other daughter I kept til she was 6 and I had her trained and put at least 6000.00 into getting her to that point to find out she was too much for my physical state. Greenies are out of my league anymore.

I wish she was fat- but she's not. Her abdomen is distended. She is still ribby and lacking about 75# or so according to my vet. We're trailering her up to an equine hospital this week to take x-rays and determine if she's a canidate for surgery, he suspects a good sized enterolith.

Opps I got your mare mixed up with Stormys. Now if she isn't preggers she needs a diet-just like my mare does.
I sure hope it turns out to be something not too serous. Like a worm that has gotten resistant? I'll say a little prayer for her.

Here is my update, sorry it's a bit late. After some x-rays and debating, I went ahead with Sx for the Enterolith. When they had her open, it was discovered she had tumors wrapped near and around her intestines- hence the colic episodes. No way to remove them, and I made the decision to put her down.
I was so afraid when she began to look pregnant that it would be an unhappy ending. :-(

The Shetland mare I bought is also not pregnant. She was due 2 weeks ago and I see not a SIGN of pregnancy. The foal went back to the breeder, so I'm not heartbroken (although she is, she mare was bought and bred and shipped from Nebraska just to have this foal...) but no patter of little hooves around here this year.

And now- what to do with a breeding when I don't have a mare?? sigh- anyone is So. Cal need a nice breeding to a SE Al Khamsa Blue List Elig. Arab?

Michelle

Michelle,

I am so sorry for your loss. What a painful experience. Then to have a double whammie. I would not act to quick to get rid of your breeding. Make sure you stay in communication with the stallion owner. Perhaps another horse will catch your eye. Perhaps you could lease a mare for breeding? Hoping for you that something good will come your way.

Michelle, I am so very sorry! Prayers are with you! Don't give up on the breeding yet. You never know, you might end up with another mare. Just give it some time. Once again, I am really sorry.
