Alright now we have had quite a few foals born already and they grow up very fast.....time to get the tape or stick out and get to measuring their height.
Post your foals age and height and the heights of the parents. It will let others get an idea how fast they grow and at what rate. all foals are created equal in this place there is no better or less better height. Each breed has the most desirable height for its function, this is not a contest, it is only a way to share the small milestones our foals achieve at different stages.

My filly is now 5 1/2 weeks old her height today is a hair under 11.3 hands
3 weeks ago she was 10.3 hands sire is 16.1 hands and her Dam is 15.3

Well, my last foal of the year was born last night, she is a beautiful tri-colored bay spotted draft named Bella. She is out of a 15 hand tobiano paint stud, and her mom is an 18 hand percheron mare. Bella was born at 11.2 hands tall! I have never seen such a big baby, she is a beauty! Anyway, has anyone been around a baby of this size? And if so, how to you teach it manners when it already weighs well more then I do?
I am working on the pics and description of her, they should be up tomorrow or the day after. :-)
Oh, by the way, you can see pics of my three other foals by clicking on the link. Baron is 11 hands tall, Jackson is about 10 hands and Daisy is somewhere around 8 hands tall. They are all so precious!

Jan: The only ones I have are newborns: http://photobucket.com/albums/g223/pegm/
I'll have to get my more recent ones loaded. I'll let you know when they're in the album. Your filly is absolutely gorgeous. Maybe we can introduce them.....

Sorry Jan - A bit off the point but that fencing is amazing!! Is that electric tape? Only 20metres of VERY thin tape here is at best £16 a go, which is about $32 (really rough estimate) I was just wondering whether it might be worth getting some of that shipped over to me!???

Peggy he is precious.....As far as a match between my baby and yours...she is my baby and I want her pure and a virgin for quite a while not even entertaining the idea of having her deflowered for quite some time...giggle. but he is a pretty boy and should make some really cute babies!

Lori I love Chu Kash but again my daughter is going to stay a virgin for quite a while... besides since I am your boys God parent that would be like informal incest wouldnt it? LOL

Kim the fencing is not electric, I have electric on top of the fencing a thin wire, but the fencing is a vinyl and aircraft cable fencing, if a horse should run into it it gives but does not break and it has cinches that if the horses lean against it (which they did before I put electric on it) it can be tightend at specific points on each side. I love it, best investment I ever made.

Jan I'm not that , of course later. Informal incest, not in the horse world. Bloodlines are there for a nice racing baby?? Maybe much later in their life.

LOL I was joking Lori! (((((((((((HUGS)))))))))

The problem with posting a joke is that without inflections in a voice, folks just do not know if you are serious or just playing around...in this case I am just playing around.

I know that your boy and my girl would make a very nice match. I will keep that in mind thanks Lori.

Line breeding is a very accepted and a often common practice among breeders including myself. :-)

No offence taken, Jan I know you were joking I could tell! I do agree linebreeding with those two would be a very nice match. Please do keep that in mind!

BTW forgot to mention there is already talk about Chu kash in the horse circle around here. Even though he has not left the property. The stallion owner popped in last night and is still very impressed with how he looks. Said by far he is better looking than his full brother from the year before!

Update: Boston turned 7 weeks so I just measured him again. He is 248 pounds and 12 hands. WOW they grow fast ((Hopefully he's not growing too fast)).... Jan, seriously - I think breeding Boston is going to be out of the question anyway. I really don't think I'm experienced enough to handle a stallion and our daughter is hoping to turn him into a jumper. That's a long way off though... you never know!!!!

well Jericho is 41 inches tall at hip and withers on his 1 month birthday. (10.1 hands) sounds tiny compared to all of yours, but he was born about 34 inches tall! and keep in mind he is 1/2 arab, not a full QH so with that in thought hes pretty good size...much bigger than hsi full arab sisters were at htis age nd right about the same as his full qh sister...you have got to see this picture...it is the best...hes admiring his sister...its almost like hes looking into his future...its awesome...here it goes!

so Jan is breeding 1/2 bro and sis too close?
(same sire OR same mare)
cuz if it is ok, i see these two as a nice combo for color!!! (scary)

Kris half brothers sisters are one of the most common line breeding done. In fact the sire of my filly's dam was bred that way, his grandfather is the same on both the dam and the sires side (Jack straw) so you see it is pretty common practice, but be careful when in/line breeding the best or worse charactoristics can be expressed so sometimes some flaws can be exposed which were not expressed on the dam and sire themselves but comes out on the foal. careful consideration must be exercised when seeking to double up on a certain line...It can produce exceptional horses or not so exceptional ones.

Kris is perfect for his breeding. I think he is excellent. It is not a competition each breed will mature at a different height and at a different rate some horses also mature slower/faster then others. Each are special in their own way and perfectly suited for the work each breed is known to do.

Lori Chu Kash is gorgeous! It can be really hard to keep him a stallion, so few are easily handled. But he has alot to offer as a stud I think.

Jan I'm hoping he takes after his sire as he is a very easy going stud to work with and be around. The stud normally passes this on to his foals....so I hope all goes well with keeping him a stud! At least I am going to try!!

Kris I just love that pic and yes as long as they both represent good flawless charactorisics..go for it they would make a pretty baby!
