My 1 week old colt is getting teeth and has found out he can bite. He doesn't do it mean but he just grabs things-like my hood, hair etc with his mouth and kind of pulls on it a little. I have a plastic bag in his paddock(tied on the fence so he gets used to the sound) and he chews on that and everything, i dont think he's being mean but I dont want him thinking he can bite. Pat Parelli said he doesn't do anything because they're just being curious but I don't know. He follows me sometmes and trys to bite, I usually just push him away and he stops, comes back to me and wants to be petted. When he trys to bite my hand I just lay it flat and he can't bite it or i put my finger in his mouth where wormer would go. I don't want to be mean to him but I dont want him to think its ok. So I was just wondering what other people do?
thanks!

Elena Vieira he is probably just getting his teeth in but your right you dont want him to do that when he stars just rub his mouth and nose more than he wants every time he trys he will learn that it bring unwanted attention.

I have a supper mouthy filly thats a yearling this year and the thing that helped her most was giving her things that are okay to chew on. I rub her lips or tell "NO" when she goes after things that are off limits like my belt loops or the cat but I'll give her things that are okay to bite and carry like the brim of my hat or a Jolly ball. She is only alowed to chew on things that I hand her, and I always hand her anthing new that might go on her body like a saddle pad or scarry sounding tarp. I think this stuation satisfies her curiosity, but also teaches that she only gets what she wants when she pays attention to me.
