I hope you all dont mind - I started a fresh thread because My computer was having trouble getting me into the other one because of all the posts!!

I was going to post some pictures to start this off. Jan - Maybe you can tell me if you still stand by your colt prediction (Or anyone else If they have any idea!) Maybe its coz I see her everyday - but she doesnt seem to be growing that much, I thought maybe I could get that filly yet. Her Udder seems a bit fuller today also..At least there seems to be some movement. These 313 pictures where only taken yesterday.

She had a bath the day before, so shes a bit curly and messy, she rolled in the dirt after I had washed her too!! Arent they just little darlings : )

By the way - I should probably add - That rather nasty looking lump is one of four I have found, It looks worse because it has purple spray on it!! That one is in her armpit, you might also see there is a purple smudge on the udder picture, Ive yet to find out what they are!! They are some sort of scabby area... Just didnt want you to go in and see them and wonder : )

Jan how do you know if it's a colt or filly? I know it's a guessing game but how do you predict? Is it just natural.LOL

well part of it is luck and part of it is by raising/breeding horses so many years that you notice a bit of a trend, for me a mare who carries low from 8 months on seem to carry colts about 75 to 80% of the time, mares that carry high and wide seem to have the same percentage as colts, all the rest is left to luck.

Oh well never mind Jan - Ill be happy either way as long as it has four legs!! : )

Thanks for taking a look though.... She does seem to be rather slim from the front and rather bellied from the side, so I would tend to agree actually! )Mind, she was always a bit out of proprtion - she had a large belly to begin with!)

Jan- You did predict a colt for Aspen, so she still looks like its a colt?

I really hope she foals soon. Her 340 mark is today. She's so funny. In the last week or so she's had soo many itchy spots, you know the spots that make them stretch their necks way out and move their lips lol.

I have been waking up every 2 hours and checking on her. I know that the one time I don't she'll foal so I am making sure to always do it...even though it would be nice for her to foal.

Is it true that colts are carried longer than fillies? I think I heard that somewhere?

Kim- I was about to make a part 3 too. My computor took forever to load the part 2!

Well everyone-wish me luck! I am hoping tonight..but I have a feeling it wont be!

(((Good foaling vibes)))

ITS A FILLY!!!!

She started dripping milk last night, I checked on her every two hours and this morning she wouldn not eat her feed, and she started walking in cirlces and acting very uncomfortable, then I left and went in the house to watch on my camera and she layed down and her water broke. She delivered a beatiful tobiano filly, she is bay now but I think she will turn gray. Anyhow I will post pictures this evening.

Bad news is, it has been 5 1/2 hours and she still has not passed the placenta, I called the vet and left a message, waiting for her to call me back. I will post pictures and an update this evening.

Magic foaled on March 12 at 12:38am. She did not pass her placenta. The vet came out and removed the placenta and gave her antibiotic shot. She also didn't poop for at least 18 hours. She was close to being oiled.

All went well though.

Congrats on your foal.

Awsome Kris. I did not know your mare had foaled. Did you post pictures somewhere? I guess I did not see them.
I had a feeling this filly would be big. Dad was a 17hand paint around 1500lb. and Dallas was HUGE. Anyhow just glad everyone is healthy and all went well.

Kris or Kassie - Can I assume that the oxytocin or oxyticin (not sure which is right) causes the placenta to pass?

Kris - I am not sure what I was expecting when Dream's water broke, but I wasn't prepared for what I saw and heard. There had to be gallons off fluid gushing from her...it sounded like a a bucket of water being poured out...I was shocked. Just out of curiosity, does anyone know what the average amout of fluid is?

Kassie she is big does not even look like a newborn! Glad to hear she is better.

Kris sorry to hear that T had trouble but is better now. Must have been all fluid build up.

Kathee yes oxytocin is given to help let the milk down and to help clean out any excess fluid or remains in the uterus. If I get this right it is a drug that works like contractions on the uterus. If you co to the articles page on here and look up oxytocin Jos has a bit of information about the drug. Just his article is on how it is used at breeding time to remove the excess fluid from the mare after being bred. But it will give you an idea about the drug and it's usage.I use to use it all the time when I was breeding the dogs especially after they had delivered a few and were haveing trouble with the last ones. Just with them if you gave it at the wrong time and there was way too many left in there you could end up killing them becasue they did not have time to come out. I would always xray my dogs to know how many where there.

Kathee, the oxytocin makes the mare contact and gets the placenta out. On dogs it you give it when she has Uterin Inertia and it gets them contracting and pushing again.

Next time we have a foal I am going to get some and keep it on hand before the foal arrives.

There are alot of S words, but not many work very well - Salvation, Sacrifice, Savior, Sacrament
The word Easter is from the Saxon word Eostre so Tsaxon (a slight stretch). There is also Tsabbath. Santo means blessed in Spanish. The word Sunday in English comes from the word Sunne which was a goddess of the Sun. Good luck!

you know if i breed again i will be sure to have qxytocin on hand! its cheap, the actual dose cost 50 cents, the vet drawing it up cost 2.50, while shot, $3.00, lots cheaper thana vet bill for an infection in my book!
although today i will be having a vet visit anyway, mom has only pooped 2X, not sure if that is good, seh still is not drinking too much, and hte little guy is struggleing to poop, he passed a ton of meconium, but now he tries and strains and just a little "juice" comes out(sorry about the descriptive desctirption) ...poor guy...
he sure is cute though! and man do i feel rested today! a whole night sleep, did not wake up once...i forgot how that felt! :-)
FOR THOSE STILL WAITING...A WHOLE NIGHTS SLEEP FEELS WONDERFUL!!! HANG IN THERE!
I love it I now can pick on the ones still waiting!
well of course it had to get cold here last night...poor guy was shivering, so i cut a zipper sweatshirt up to fit him (hes too little for my foal blanket), darn weather!
hopefull it is nice and sunny today so they can bask in hte sunshine in the little pen. he loved his time in the little pen yesterday!

ANITA I would say you are getting close if i use my mare as an example...keep us posted!

Thanks Kathee for the S words...:-) Ill see what i can figure...
Kassie, yep pictures are on the 348 site.
i am loading new ones from last night right now. he is much smaller than yours, hw seems to have taken on the arab looks and possibly build too...which is totally ok with me...(we'll see how he fills out in hte next week)
I have only seen pictures of half arab buckskins,as buckskin is not usually an arab color, they are beautiful, so if I own one, thats cool! :-)

ITS A COLT!
I don't know if she had it easter night/ this morning! But she had a palomino colt. My dad found him at 2:30 am. He is so adorable. I don't know if it was the bag that I found or the placenta. I thought it was the placenta because the baby was already up and walking around when the placenta(bag?) came out of her. It was really heavy. I don't know, I hope it's the placenta. She was exactly on her due date! He is the cutest little thing! Pretty big too and really friendly. He followed me around for a while.
Aspen is being a great mommy, protective but not overly. She follows him closely, constantly nickering at him, he neighed twice. So cute. She had him right in the mudd though so he's all dirty. I didn't really imprint him but I spent an hour out there petting him and mom. I dried him off with a towel etc. I am going to due his umbelical cord when it's light outside.
He is nursing and he pooped or was it meconium(what is that?)It was really dark so I couldn't see. I will go see in about 1.5 hours when it's light. It was so funny, when they were still out in the mudd he plopped down right in it. He is to cute, I will try to get pictures ASAP.
Three babies in one day on here, wow.
P.S. Jan you were right!
ohyea- Tonight was the night I told her "Aspen don't have your baby because its storming." and what did she due? Also, it was the night I was lazy on my checks and only checked her at 11.I was planning my next one at 3. So those of you who are waiting! Wake up when you're supposed too!
Ok! Goodnight!

Our mare Melody delivered a palomino colt Easter at 9:00 last night( out of our palomino stallion, SPC CUt N Oak), very hard delivery but everything is going great and he started nursing as soon as he can stand, what a relief!! We have two more due, one is our Grulla mare any day now. Our stallion has thrown 100% color this year, we are very excited!!

I am at 317 days today - I didnt notice anything strange when I first got to the field this morning but when I got her into the stable and started grooming her she was a different shape!! She was grumpy, kicking her belly, stamping her feet, shaking her neck when it kicked, lifting her tail constantly and the shape of her is different - she hasnt that v shape, but it goes ribs, then baby bump underneath instead of all over like before! Her udder is visable from behind her now and her belly is huge! just lower - Do you think It could be soon? It shocked me a little to see so much change already!!

Just an update. The baby is super friendly. He even whinnyed when i went out there. I've been out with him and mom a lot today. Aspen doesn't seem to mind but is very protective of him, especially when he tries to run off. I pet him when he's sleeping and laying down. He will walk up to me and if i am sitting down and kiss to him he will put his mouth by mine, so cute. He lets everyone pet him.
He fell in Aspens water today! I wans't here but my mom said it was funny. He got out okay and nothings wrong with him. He has two stockings on his back legs but I am not sure about his front legs(mud). I think I am going to call him Riley.
I am very happy with him! I go and look at him all the time. I really hope he stays this sweet. I've pretty much imprinted him.
He has pooped, peeded. etc. Nursing great. His legs are a little weird but he walks/runs just fine! So cute!
I'll load more pictures of him. I put a lime green blanket on him. He looks like a little breyer horse!

Elena - Dream was a maiden and she would not let Catcher more than 6 feet from her in the pasture which kept her running a lot! This lasted about 5 days and then I noticed more and more distance between them. Yesterday (day 13), Catcher layed down for a nap and woke up alone! Dream was 3/4 of an acre away. As long as Dream can see her, she is fine - it gets ugly when the little joy plays games like running laps around the barn instead of going in...this drives Dream crazy. Catcher stops long enough to look in the barn and then is off again. This only happens when I don't have help and have to get all of the horses in by myself; otherwise I lead Catcher to the barn.

Kathee- that sounds cute! Aspen is not letting him anywhere far from her, I hope she loosens up and lets him run around and have fun. She's a good mom though so I can't complain and she let me and my friends touch the baby so I guess its worth it!

Well Classy has finally decided to quit playing games and is showing some progress (knock on wood) She has been going off her feed every night about 2am till about 6am for the last 3 nights, yesterday she had two little clear drops of wax on her teats, this morning the one on her left side was alot bigger and a more white in color, the right side was also larger and a diff color, her vulva is definitely alot longer and more relaxed and staying that way, also starting to gape a bit. Here's the link to her pics, password is kiarra hers is the album titled Classy Poise Sun, the first 6 are from this morning
http://s44.photobucket.com/albums/f34/lilbitkansas/Classy%20Poise%20Sun%20AQHA%2 0Mare%20Pregnancy%20Timeline%20Pics/
Congrats to all with new babies and sending HFV to all still waiting.
Hope everyone has a great day.

Hi
I am new to this but have been reading for awhile. This picture was taken about 3 weeks ago. She is due around 4/28/06. What do you guys think, she has gotten so much bigger than my other mare did. this is her 8th baby. I worry, but I am sure she is a pro. Does anyone have a guess as to filly or colt? Her udder is staying pretty full and the liquid is getting a little cloudy.

Renee - she a very pretty and in great condition. I am not a gender guesser so you do not want my opinion for sure! They usually are pretty consistant from year to year with # of days, usually adding a day or two to each birth. Do you have any idea how long she has gone in the past?

The guy we bought her from said that she is typically right around her due date, of course I wonder if he even really knew. He was kind of surprised when I asked him that question. the man has a good bit of money and probably had someone else taking care of the horses. We absolutely love her. We bought her at a sale and I don't think that we could have done any better if we would have looked for months. Her last baby was Grey and she is bred back to the same stud. We are hoping for another one. This will also be one of the last out of this stallion. He pasted away a few months back. She seems to be uncomfortable now. She seems stiff and her back legs remind me of a pregnant women about ready to deliver, they just move odd. This will be our second baby on the farm, but the last one never made it out of the sac. I guess that is why I am being so paranoid with her. I hope that I can be there when she delivers.

Here are a few pictures of my Mustang, Missy taken tonight. She is at 369 days. Her belly looks to have dropped somewhat to me from when I last saw her on Easter and it is rock hard in the middle. Her udder is filling slowly but surely. She kept biting at her sides and trying to kick her stomach tonight, as well as rubbing on a tree from her sides all the way to her rear (which she did for quite some time!) My digital camera isn't taking night shots like it should, sorry for the somewhat blury/distorted photo but it is a fairly good side shot

Marie your girl sure is looking close, she looks to be carrying a colt. what are you hoping to get? she is a very pretty girl she should have a nice foal what color is daddy?

Renee she looks to be carrying a very large colt. I wish all the best to you and that pretty mare of yours should have a pretty foal. Welcome.

Stormy I have to agree with Kris she does not look big at all, does she look wide when you look at her from the front or rear? can you get a shot from the rear or front and of course an udder shot would be great!

Hi!
I just wanted to give everyone an update. Riley(that's what I decided to name him) is doing great. He is the cutest little thing. Aspen is such a good mommy. My friends couldn't believe this was her first babie because she's so good at letting other people come in and pet him. He is a really light Palomino, especially compared to Tansy's foal. He has blue eyes, but I bet they will change. I've taken so many pictures. He eats but he jerks on Aspen a little bit I don't think he's getting as much as he wants, but I know he's getting some because if i try to milk her it squirts out. I've only seen him run a few times, for very short distances-trying to catch up with mom. Aspen's actually leaving him a little by himself now-to go eat but not for long. She's a really good mommy. I haven't loaded that many on photobucket but heres his website that Becky(the stallion owner)made.
http://www.sportpony.us/riley.htm
I was just wondering what other people's foals act like? and how old they are? I am going to buy Clinton Anderson DVD and try to start that ASAP too!

Well my filly is now 3 weeks old, they nudge their mothers udder quite a bit for many months when their demand exceeds the mares supply, it helps her "Let Down" her milk, if the foal gets too aggressive with it the mare may just give the foal a nip on the hind end (correction). Most foals keep close to their mothers the first week or so, little by little they will begin to venture out from the mother to explore their world, most mares are watchful but do not get alarmed if they are within sight and a few feet away, some new mothers tend to be a bit more protective then older broodmares who have been there and done that a few times....as for the running...in a week you will see him fly! :-)

Yes, Missy is a maiden. I will get the other two shots (udder and rear) next time I go out to see her. She does not live with me, unfortunately. She does look pretty big from the front, at least compared to what she usually looks like. I have had a friend who is fairly experienced in foaling, keeping an eye on her progress. She says Missy has progressed well, she just thinks she'll stay fairly tidy and small. Here are a few shots taken over the past couple of weeks (not too sure the dates)

Kris, I know this isn't really the kind of udder shot you want to see, but it's all I have right now. I will get underneath for you ASAP. This was taken a week or so ago...it seems more full now in the back. Maybe you can answer my maiden question on bagging up...some people say that a maiden mare can wait to bag up until right before or after birth, depending on the horse, while others say that they should be full and bagged regardless. Which is right??

Here's another picture, basically same shot as before. She has had this somewhat "filled" or fatty look in the front for a long time. It's the back that is starting to fill in around the teats now...

Our mare did not bag up until the end of her pregnancy. Also we actually got scolded when we moved her to the place she was going to kid - they said there was no way she was pregnant and what were we thinking. She was not a maiden mare but hid that baby well (halter horse). She foaled at 356.

thanks Cindy. Missy is small compared to most of the other mares on here and she just doesn't have that bagging up look like the others either. She does look healthy though and is eating, peeing and pooping just fine. Guess those are all good signs! It's so funny though, that I have to laugh. She DOES look small on here but to people who have known her before she was pregnant, they see her and are like "OMG! She is huge!"I really appreciate everyone's input..it makes the waiting much more bearable! Thanks! We're at day 370 today..patients is wearing thin.

Stormy aka sarah- i see she has the veins (milk veins) on her belly and inner thighs, that is good. I guess a maiden can literally fill during delivery, as long as she has start, but if i think back to my mares maiden, she was full for over 3 weeks amber waxed completely for 5-6 days prior to foaling, never had the first to pregnancies.the dropped abdomen look. first and second pg's, the day it turned milky she foaled, never leaked first 2 pregnancies. but this preg(3rd) she waited to bag until about 10 days before, then filled rapidly, she carried much longer and waxed about 3 or 4 days prior for one day, turned milky next day and leaked white milk roe 2 days before foaling, and was HUGE!!! she dropped a few weeks before foaling, then bellied out again for 10 days then really dropped 2 days before foaling, but she never got slab sided.
day of she paced ALOT, snack and go eating and pooped a lot the last 2 days, gettin progressively more moist and then cowpies, then progressively less amount as the day progressed that she foaled. became very agitated, biting thinks rubbing her face on her legs a lot, roll, tail going nuts, looking at her belly and looking behind her like someone was touching her backside and she was looking for them with her ears pinned.
just some observations i made...she was 355 days.
good luck and keep us posted to her progress.
if you could postsquare on shots of her front, rear, and side view and underneath shot of the udder to see that would be nice.
have a nice day!

Kris, I will try to get those pics for you. I am going to see Missy tonight. My mother-in-law says that she was taking her sweet time coming in for her morning feed (she usually runs) and that she looks HUGE but that's about all she knows...we will see! I just want this waiting to be over with! I know Jos would probably shake his head at me but I am now out of the "normal" range, at day 371 today! {hehe} so Jos, is she overdue yet??? lol

Classy is still holding out on us but seems to be slowly making progress. I think she just likes all the attention.
Jan, Just want a healthy foal don't really matter what sex, but we are all pretty much in agreement with you, it's a colt.
Sire is a chestnut, and this will be his first baby. His pic is here, this was taken last fall.

Hi everyone IT'S A FILLY! sorry I haven't posted in a while but with foal watch, work(two jobs), and my daughter running track it's hard to find time to post. Rosie foaled around 3am Wed. (19th) Everything went well the filly is a bay with a almost square star and an unusal hind sock. I will post pics this evening maybe or sometime tomorrow. Congrats to all new foal owners.

Jan-- you told me maybe filly but your gut said colt
so I'm not sure if that makes you right or wrong. I will say the last time I asked I told you I had picked out a colt name and that it was ok if it was a colt and you did tell me to make sure I had a filly name as well. I think you do a fine job. THe nail test said filly.
My next mare is not due till Sept. so I will not be on WATCH till then.
Good Luck to all you still waiting, Rosie was at day 347. The filly's name is Violet.

The average gestational duration falls between 320 and 370 days, but as long as there is not any endophyte access (fescue etc.) or obvious problems, I wouldn't be too worried yet.

I have not had alot of time to post lately. My mare Annie has not foaled yet, she is 339 today. We were thinking she would foal last night. I told my husband, since the bad weather is coming this afternoon and tonight, she will decide to foal then.We are all looking forward to the new foal. I found out a month or so ago she is homozygous for the tobiano gene, so we know we will get color. Her foal from last year is also homozygous for the tobiano gene. I love all colors, but paints, palomino are just to cute. We have all colors here. We have bay, bay and white, black and white, grey, palomino, dapple grey, line back dun, apply.I would have one of every color if I had room.I haven't found a horse I didn't love yet.I tell my friends who don't have horses don't know what they are missing. My horses help me when I am sad, happy, unset and etc. They also help my children with everyday problems as well.Pets are great.
take care send me happy foal,
Jan is guess a filly on Annie we will see, hope so.

Congrats Windy!

Riley is doing great. He's already met the tarp, the wheel barrow, halter, horsey blankey, plastic bags, garbage bags and a few other things like ropes etc and he's only 6 days old. He is the sweetest thing. He's starting to nibble though...kind of annoying but he's learning fast not to do it. I kind of just gently push his head away. He is a really smart little baby. He follows me around and if I have a plastic bag he plays tug-a-war with it, he loves plastic bags. He was trying to "play" with me, you know, jumping at me but I pressed his chest down and he stopped, he hasn't really done it since. but he does run like the wind all over. Aspen is starting not to care as much as long as he comes back to her. He is getting eyeliner around his eyes. it looks neat. I get a lot of complements on his color, it will probably darken but it is a gorgeous color I think. I got my dream to come true. I always wanted to have a baby horse with his head laying in my lap and Riley did it the other day I was sitting next to him when he was laying down and he layed his head on my lap! I was so happy.
Aspen is doing great. She went her first real pee today, it use to be this weird brown stuff-I am really relieved that she peed.
Riley drank a little water today, he's been putting his head in the bucket and today he tasted some! He is the sweetet thing. I dont know how to get him to lead, he'll follow me but that's not the same. any ideas? When did you start leading your foals?
Here's some pictures!

Well, my mare is at 336 days. I thought that her bag was full until yesterday. Wow, I am surprised how tight it is. She is still only showing 2 squares on the foal predictor test but we are watching her close on the camera. How soon after a really tight bag have others foaled?

I need to apologise for my typing above - Having a bit of a war with the computer tonight - why I much prefer to do this at work and use their internet, mine is far too temperamental!

Thanks for the compliments. We love but her sire is a palomino so we were hoping for a buckskin. She has one odd shaped rear sock (low in front high in back)and the other rear foot has a white spot on the back which has made her hoof white with stripes. Her sire has a dorsal stripe and she does as well we have yet to determine if it is dun or counter shading. His filly born in Aug. has yet to shed off but her face and her buttocks are almost a grulla color. She is either a grulla or a very sooty buckskin. We bred another mare to him but we traded her this winter at a sale, They will probably get our buckskin.

Hi Everyone,
I just want to tell ya'll how good my baby(riley) is doing. He's two weeks old and is halter broke and leads well. He is picking up his feet now without that much strugge. and is learning NO really well. I also use "Walk" and HOE with him. He got to go on a really long walk with Aspen today around our 10 acre propertie he acted like a gentlemen and we only had a few incidents were he took off running but most of the time we walks besides me and stops when I stop. I just love him! He doesn't fight at all with the halter-taking it on or off. He is so friendly and follows me around the pasture. I hope everyones babies are doing great!

Windy - I wish I had have known about colour genetics before I bred my mare - I would have tried for a dun also! Never mind - Any colour will be just fine!

Elena - Congrats to you on your success story that is riley : ) Not that your one to boast but...........

AManda - Wow, I started to download that picture and for a minute I thought id Got the wrong file!! She looked like my own TB right up until the white areas... I hope you get a lovely ANglo Arab foal out of her. She looks about the same shape as mine - And jan has predicted me a colt... Im not very good a predicting - mainly because my brain wont listen, I want a filly so much I wont beleive it looks like a colt whatever Im told ; ) What do you want? and what colour have yopu bred to? Ill post a piccie of mine to date later - you can see the comparison

Everyone I forgot to tell you all, the filly has one blue eye and one brown eye. The sire or dam neither had blue eyes. I guess she got it from the grandparents side.
thanks melissa

Hi Amanda - and thanks! The stallion is a new forest pony, he is only 14.2hh as Id like to try and get something a bit smaller out of her - although I know its unlikely it will be less than 15.3hh. He is a native pony but his actual pedigree is very good, he comes from some of the really well known foundation stock and he has won many things, including Best of Breed at olympia 3 years running!! Im quite excited (VERY excited) to see the foal : )
We are only 4/5 days from 'due' date now and there still isnt any change... B.O.R.I.N.G! I didnt see her yesterday though - I went out and had my mum feed her, so I will take a look tonight and see if I can find anything to get excited about!

What is your stallion? Any changes in your girl to make you think you might be any closer?

Hi Kim - I bred to an arab you can see him at www.azurearabins.homestead.com I plan on doing dressage and maybe eventing with foal. Hoping the foal will want to do that too!! How big is your mare? My mare Sue is about 16 hands the stallion she is bred to is 15.3. So I am hoping for something around that size. Sue is starting to get more of a bag now and laying down a lot more to roll! She still seems happy and will run to meet me when I go out feed her.

WOW what beautiful babies!!!

I am getting very excited as my Lusitano mare is bred to a Lusitano palomino stud. So seeing 2 palomino babies makes my heart beat faster! All of the babies are beautiful. I have a question for Elena & Tansy..well more for Tansy, I see your mare is obviously Palomino, but your baby looks chesnut to me; how do you know the diff??? Please forgive my ignorance....it was 4 months before I believed that 05 my Bay filly would not turn gray....well actually at 11 months, I see a couple white hairs on her (back & side) & wonder...could she turn grey on me.

I am sorry Jennifer I don't really know how to tell, Riley is obviously a palomino, you might want to try to google it and see if there is certain things a Palomino has to have, or maybe contact the Palomino registration and ask what they consider to be a palomino? Riley hasn't darkened at all. You could probably guess if it is a chestnut/palomino by the breeding? Like if you bred to a chestnut, it will probably be one(right? Isn't Chestnut dominat gene?) I bred a red dun to a cremello and got a Palomino. I hope someone can answer it better for you!
Thanks for all the complements on my boy! He is growing like a weed and the best personality in the world!
Have fun with your foals!

JAn - a filly?? Do you think so : ) Just want to check thats not a typo....!!

Amanda - my mare is 16hh also and the stallion 14.2 - Im hoping it wont be quite as big as her, last time my mare was bred to a 16hh Appaloosa and the baby matured at 15.3hh. Good luck for what your after. Sounds like you are seeing some changes in your girl.

My mares milk was up again today and she has been eating her food in stages for the last couple of days - fingers crossed : ) She has put herself away in the barn today out of the sun and there are some rather sloppy poo's in there, could be the grass but I hope its signs of an impending baby! her 'due' date is on monday (shes 339days today) so Ive booked two weeks off work from that monday...shed better have it!!

Hi Kim, at this point yes she sure looks to be carrying a filly, but its a guess and sometimes I get lucky other times not so lucky so we will see if my luck holds out. I hope for your sake it does. Sounds like your mare is getting there Kim. loose poos are a good indicator but lush grass can do that too so hard to tell. Keep a close eye on her and do the hardest thing to do...Wait! :-( Hang in there!
