Hey Everyone!
My maiden mare is 324 days. She is a red dun. I've noticed that she is getting dapples on her butt. She is also getting a lot more of the dun factors, such as the white at the tip of the tail. She is a little lighter, but that might be because of her shedding. She's never had dapples though. Has this happened to anyone else? I am not worried about it, just woundering!
THANKS
Elena

I wouldn't be worried to much about it. some mares coats change a little when they have a foal. My mare last year was a nice red sorrel but at the last part of her pregnancy she turned to a DARK liver sorrel. She looked almost black but she started changing back after the colt was about 4 months old. It was her first foal and she had never changed colors so I think it had something to do with the pregnancy.

Elena - congratulations - dapples are a sign of good health and nutrition! They can come and go without meaning they are in poor health, but they are definately a sign of a properly fed horse. They can occur in almost every breed. My gal sprouted them about 6 months after I bought her and when I researched it...I didn't mind at all!

Cool. Thank you both! I feel a lot better about it! Nice to know she's as healthy as I hoped she was!
