I've been reading the board and havent posted much, so I thought I'd share our new little one off. his name is Darwin. (I did post pics on the genetics page, but I thought I should start a new thread here).
He was Born Sunday March 26th around 5:00 AM or so. I missed it cause she didnt wax or anything. she acted normal when I checked her at 11:00 PM (eating Hay). So needless to say I was a little surprised when I went in the barn in the morning.
Mom and foal are doing great. I had the vet come today anyways and do the blood test and check afterbirth. After the vet check, Mom and foal ran all over the pasture today. The little guy is sure a lotta fun to watch play.
I'm still unsure of what color he will be. Dam is a chestnut POA cross and Sire is a Bay Arab.
Darwin also has Blue eyes! one more blue than the other. I was unsure, but the Vet said they will stay blue. She also thought hey may shed to a dark Brown or Bay. I still think Black
hope you enjoy the pics!

Mike - he looks like a little stuffed toy! He is sweet...I am not sure about the bay color, that would be a lot of change... but, I would trust the vets opinion over mine! Maybe some of the other can give you an idea. He looks a lot like another foal recently born with that blueish/grayish/blackish color. What a doll! How many days did your mare go before foaling?

Mike, he looks alot like my filly that was born 2 weeks ago. She doesn't have blue eyes, however.

We still have no clue what she'll shed out to be!

What breed is your little guy? He's beautiful!

Amber, our foals sure do have a similar coat. The face on my little guy looks like its turning more of a dark brown color now. maybe he will turn out Bay like his dad. I'll get some new pics on here as soon as we get some decent weather.

I love your paint foal. The foal and mare look great. I wish I could get play by play birth pictures. My mare foaled in the pasture last year, I was able to get pictures of the foal learning to stand up. My paint colt from last year is name Bynums Eye Catcher(barn name is Little Man).We found out a few weeks ago, my stud colt is homozygous for the tobiano gene. I love the name you gave your foal as well. My colt has a eye of white on one side on his mane, so that is why we name him that. see him on www.photobucket.com/albums/e329/MBhorses
My paint mare(Annie)who is also homozygous for the tobiano gene is due April, I am waiting now.
take care,
melissa

Mike what a sweet foal I know you must be so proud as well you should be.
Amber what a sweet looking filly congrates!!!! I love it.

Kathee, I love your filly and the color but that name...one near and dear to my Native American heart!

Here is my brag, this is "Jades Luck of the Straw" here APHA name but her barn name was just offered to me by the Choctaw Tribal council....the name is "Okchaya" (oak-cha-awe) means "Giver of life"...in choctaw. I just love the name and I believe she feels the names power within her as well. After so much tragedy this foaling season it is so nice when things go well. I love seeing all the new foals, it brightens the heart and strengthens the spirit. :-)

I am trying something new here. I uploaded a video clip of Dream and Catcher for their first turn out together. They are in a 1/2 acre private pasture. Poor Dream is going to have to learn to eat on the run. Catcher should have been named Catch Me!

We will see if this works.

You will find the following pictures of "Joker" born yesterday April fools... The last picture includes "Rowdy" the colt we had born on the 23rd. They are both huge! I can't believe how outstanding these colts both are!

Kathee -- I tried to load a video it didn't work about a week ago... guess I will have to try again! PS - Sorry about the mistake on the color of your mare... I now see she is a buckskin on your clip. In the other pics she looked grey on my screen!

Danielle - he is so stricking! His coloring was one of the possibilities for Catcher (dad homozygous black) and I would have loved that, too. Do you have a measurement on him? He looks really tall. Catcher measured 38" at the wither - mom is 15 hh.

PS - she is such a light bucksin that she is confused with a grey all the time - particularly when she is laying down and her dark legs are wrapped up under her.

Kathee and Danielle- again, what pretty babies! I'm so envious, it seems "bay" and "colt" are the color/sex for the year. If it weren't for little Cisco, the barn would be quite dull..lol. Luckily, we still have Avery (who it seems will be forever pregnant) Sophie ( palomino ) and Beth ( gray ) yet to go, MAYBE, must MAYBE we'll get some color to go with all that red!

Kathee -- He was 42" 110lbs at birth out of a 14.3hh mare. My other colt was 43" 110lbs out of a 16.1hh mare. I tell ya this year is the year for BIGGIES. This is my first foal crop with my stud. I can't complain one bit, they exceded my expectations 10 fold as I had the mares long before I had the stud and went with what I had.

Everyone's foals are so nice! Adorable! :-) After a stillborn, I am happy to have a healthy Tobi colt. I am so happy! The mare didn't wax. She rolled back in progression on udder development and her vulva tightened up. Then suddenly, with no warning, she foaled. He's gorgeous and an absolute ham around people. He's just a day old, but I am absolutely in love :-) It's my first foal, can you tell? 8 years in the making, really. First it was just convincing my parents to let me breed her and then it was just convincing myself to move on.

We're calling him spot, which was suggested by the breeder's 7 year old and adorable daughter.

Here is my webshots album where he is:
