What is a normal temp for a pregnant mare, before foaling time? My mare has no udder bag yet, she is 314 days now. I took her temp tonight it was 99.6. I took my mare temp who is due May her temp was 100.2, she is 280 days, she has a small udder already(what is up with that, she is a mini mare).I would like to make a chart to check on the temp on the pregnant mares. I would like ideals on what all to watch for my pregnant mares. I had only one mare foal last year, she is a big mare.
thanks Melissa

I also wanted to let you all know my big pregnant mare is showing some signs of foaling soon. My mare is looks like she might have drop, but not sure. My mare acted upset today. My mare was kicking at her stomach and raising her back legs alot today, plus her tail. My mare udder is down, but no milk that I can see. Last year this mare had a big udder, foaled two weeks later.
THANKS MELISSA

I took Dallas temp yesterday and it was 99.7 she is 312 days today. I know if it goes over 102 you have probelms. But I never did use the temp thing as a sign of foaling on my last two mares. I have heard it is not a very reliable tool, but could work with other signs being seen.

My mare has not dropped yet she is still holding that baby up high and wide. But her udder is enormous, and I am getting a thing yellow fluid out. I am going to start testing it with the water hardness test strips, and then I am going to switch over to the Foal Watch when I start seeing signs of her getting close.

Somewhere on this board this topic has been discussed before. In my post on the subject, I included a link to research that showed that temperature changes in the mare were not reliable enough for predicting foaling. If you use that method, you will miss a high percentage of foalings! :-(

Jos, Where is it on the board, I am unable to find it. My mare's temp was 99.2 this morning. Last year I didn't take the temp thing, but was going to try it this year.
THANKS melissa

Jos,
Thank you I looked at the site. My mare is starting to get a small udder development. I can't wait to see the new foal. I hope it is a filly, like Jan guess, because last year this mare had a colt.
thanks MELISSA
