Why would this be and how come on both preg mares....one is day 294 & 309.....looked like a bit wet and I touched it (I know, should not have) and I got a touch of what looked like blood on my finger...the other mare had same thing only looked like dried blood....both very small amount...now I am panicked....both mares are pastured together, no chance of injuries, no other horses pastured with, and have been in their pens for a week or so due to putting up electric fence. So, no excersise basically....24'x24' pen each. I will do research and ask vet tomorrow but am concerned right now and worried...these are maiden mares, and I am new to this...I will say that the 294 day mare has bigger tests, not hard or hot, and she will let me touch them...if this means anything...I posted on another site with this picture and most said normal teats and vet said normal on phone...but now I am afraid it is somehow connected with this mare....but why BOTH mares...hoping one of you can tell me this CAN be normal....PLEASE
Jan

Jan its not unusual for mares to have a bit of blood back there due to pressure.

Yep Deena is right, small blood vessels in the area can burst and cause a tiny bit of blood to be found there on the vulva, it is from the pressure of the foal. nothing to be alarmed about simular to vericose veins or hemmoroids. if the bleeding were at the point of dripping then i would be more concerned but I have a mare with the same thing and she is 351 days along and has had it for over a month off and on.
