Hey everyone I have been thinking the last couple of days about putting together a file with the different stages of pregnancy and udder deveploment. I do not know how it will end up like but I would like to try it. Here is what I would like to know and have: -Pictures of the pregnant mare (side view) and udders from day 320 on till foaling. -Please include with the pictures how many days the mare is. -Is she a maiden or season broodmare. -Had she been on fescue or not. Please email all this too me at ravenhurst@bellnet.ca I will keep everyone updated or at least try as I am putting this together for your opinions on how it looks. Thanks I stuck this on the new topics thread but maybe know one seem it there. So I thought maybe by chance if it was here someone would look at it. |

I'd like to give you a hand Raven, but you will have to wait. All my mares are 250 to 270 days. You should keep us updated on how you are doing with your project. If you don't have enough pictures 1 1/2 months from now I will certainly see what I can do. By my calculations Marty should be at 320 days around May 3 and the rest of our mares shortly thereafter. Good luck. |

Raven, I will be glad to help, as soon as my mare pops! I have pics from today (which will hopefully be her delivery day) still to upload. I can probably get them to you tomorrow if all goes well. Or I have most of the pics on my photobucket acct at http://photobucket.com/albums/e184/murrini/ then click Serina's album (it won't load right now to give you the direct link), they are all labeled. She is a seasoned broodmare (21yrs old) and Fescue is unknown, doubtful but taken off grass hay at approx 330 days just in case because she hadn't been developing a bag. She is 366 days today. |

Kris if you can email them to me. It is easier to keep them on file. You can keep them coming as she progresses along. Both side view and udders. Thanks |

hey raven- since youre on here now a question for you...my mare this evening looks like the baby is dropped deep into her abdomen, but up towards her chest(well not her chest but up behind her front legs) looks so full, and caved in just in front of her hips...is this normal? |

Kris, sorry for getting back so late to yo on your question but I would have to say it is normal. Remember this is my first time at this foaling deal but from what I read and seen with Lady they will start to cave in, in the flank area as the foalis repositioning itself into the birth channel. Then you will notice that the flank area will fill back up and the tail head (croup) will fill up as well. This means the foal has entered the birth channel. All taking place in about a weeks time. They others can correct me if I am wrong. Just this is what I had seen. |

Raven, Sorry, I just couldn't get to it today, hopefully tomorrow. You know, it takes 3 times as long to get any work done with a baby around... I have to keep stopping what I am doing to watch, scratch, pet... Plus everyone at the stable wants to see baby and hear the stories... Taking another day off work tomorrow to try and finish everything I need to do!! |
