We have a 2 week old orphan foal after losing her dam to a torsion colic.

She is taking the milk replacement well and has been started on pellets per the vets instructions.

Our best guess is that she weighs about 140 +/-. Is this a normal weight for a 2 week old?

If anybody has any help or tips on sucessfully raising an orphan, we will gladly accept any info

Thanks

You may try to post it on the NewBorn foal won, or the nursemare one. I would answer you but i have no idea. From what i've read around here it sounds right...but don't just go on my word from it. I hope you get answers! Good luck and I am sorry about your mare...:-(

not sure either, but if the foal is eating as often as reccomended and seems satisfied and is active i would assume itis getting enough and is ok, as far as weightm i am not sure what a "normal" weight would be i suppose the breed would make a difference also, i know my arab foal at 2 weeks didnt weigh 100 lbs, and i would guess that milk replace is not moms milk and may be a slower growth and the foal will catch up when it begins to eat hay grass and grain. good luck to you!
