My mare Annie has some fluid build up under her left side of her stomach. I notice it last night when I went to feed her. Annie is about 300 days breed, she is due in April. Annie had this happen last year after she had foaled ,not before.
What do you all think about it?Annie udder does not have milk in it yet. Her udder is down, but not full yet.
THANKS MELISSA

I spoke to the vet this morning about Annie, he said it is okay to have some fluid. He told me to watch her. Have you all had this before foaling?
THANKS MELISSA

Hiya,
My mare did this. Had the vet out anyway to give vaccs to other horses...looked at my mare. Theory was that the foal was probably putting pressure on a nearby lymph gland...which produced the fluid/swelling. It resolved on it's own in a few days & with turn-out. Was also about the same time during gestation in your mare, if I'm correct.
Hope this helps.
Heather
