Ok so here is the news. Dallas is now at 292 days today, I have noticed her udder is looking saggy, and droopy. No milk or anything filling in it. But yesterday I fed her a grain mixture and she ate VERY slow, and only ate about 1/4 of it. Then she wanted to be turned back out in the paddock. So I offered her some more later in the afternoon and she did not want to touch it. Today I have noticed she has not eaten hardly any hay at all. She acts normal. Just not much of an appitite. So what do you think? Should I be concerned? Or is this normal going off of feed?
My mare last year did not go off her feed at all just started eating smaller amounts. Am I making a big deal of nothing?

I did find out she usually births between 320 - 330 days. So could this just be normal for her getting ready to foal?

Kassie,
My mare is about 295 days or so. My mare Annie is still eating good so far. Last year my mare Annie kept on eating until the day she foaled, she still ate good that morning before foaling. Who knows it might be time or not. Last year I worried myself sick getting up to check every few hours. I hope this year I don't have to do that. We are waiting together we will get throught it soon. I have two mares due to foal April and May. I have a mini to foal in May.GOOD LUCK KEEP US POSTED.
Take care,
Melissa

Kassie,
My paint mare Annie looks about like your mare now. What day in April is she due? My mare udder is about like your mare, but last year Annie udder got filled with milk before she foaled. I know some mares fill up the day of. Keep us posted.
Watch for other signs.
Check her tail area.
Check udder daily
TAKE CARE,
MELISSA

Well if you go by 11 months from the last day bred she would be due around the 20th of April. But since that is totally an estimate to go by she could go anytime from April 1st - May 30th. At least I know it will be sometime this year, I hope. lol.

On another note, we bred one of our mares last week, and bred another one Tuesday. And I am leaving for the Equine-Reproduction course in the morning with my husband, so we will have them preg checked on the 22nd after we get back. I bred my sorrel mare to a Cremello Stallion that is an own son of CL Lord Buckly who is a son of CL Buckly, we know it will be a palomino, and I hope for a filly to show at halter. Then the Palomino mare we bred to a Buckskin Stallion who is a grandson of Poco Bueno who is out of King, and also he has Doc Bar on his papers. There I don't really care about gender I just hope for any color other than Bay or Sorrel.
Next month we will be breeding another one of our sorrel mares to either a palomino stud who is an own son of CL Buckly and he won 5th at PHBA world show, or to the same cremello stud (just starting) we bred our other mare to. Who would you choose?

Kassie, I personally would go for the cremello. He is gorgous! What color cross is your mare? Lady went on and off her feed for the last 6 weeks of her pregnancy. I was concerned too. She would go from eating like a bird then to a Hoover vacumm.
Good luck on your course, learn lots and bring back enough info for all!!

Dream has her days also where she won't eat anything. She has a good appetite right now, but it comes and goes.

Sage would eat her grain, but pick at her hay before she foaled, now, I cannot seem to keep her satisfied, she's making up for lost meals.

Poor Sage is so miserable before she foals, both times her legs have swollen almost double their normal size, luckily, this time it was only for the last few days of her pregnancy. I've never seen a mare swell as much as she does. She's 4 days post delivery now and almost back to normal.
