Hi All, I am purchasing a welsh mare heavy in foal. Our winter conditions have worsened, causing extremely icy footing so I am putting off the transfer date as late as possible. She is about 1 to 1-1/2 hours away (she is a quiet, proven broodmare and a pony, so very hardy). I have a quiet location with 3 other ponies. Just wondering what the last possible moving date could be. She is due April 18th. Any advice would be much appreciated. Roben |

You want to move her within 30 days of foaling so that her body can develope immunity to any new germs out there and thus protect her and her foal..It takes 30 days for their immune system to creat the antibodies... |

I agree with Gynna. I've always heard at least one month before foaling. You might want to make sure she is up on her vaccinations as well. |

I moved a mare with no problems very late term and she handled it well settled in well and 1 week later delivered a HUGE healthy foal The total start to stop of the move was just over an hr as we loaded more horses with her and never bothered her at all (Message edited by Missin_Spots on March 04, 2006) |
