Here goes nothing...Friday night(24th) I'm reading the posts about Alex having her foal born in the morning (congrat's). I decide to go out and check my own mare since her due date is the next day. I go out in my pj's and find her laying down and having some major contractions, looking at her belly and quite swelled at the vulva. Okay she is ready...call my friend to come and help. Prior to this she had been waxing for two days off and on. Called the previous owner he said sounds like she is due. My friend arrives an hour later and we start our foal watch. Going out to check on her every half hour. Typical signs of getting close to delivery...WO HO!! Mind you this is my first foal but not my first at birthing animals (dogs for 10 yrs), so I am not new to what birthing signs are.
Well, she decided that she was going to do this ALL night long and in the end no baby.. I had stayed up for 36 hrs straight. Here it is on day 341 and still no foal no more signs of contraction and wax all fell off. She was out playing this morning with my other mare and my boarders gelding. Tonight she has waxed up again but no contractions.
No milk dripping yet, FULL bags (I don't think they could get any fuller... bust maybe) :-)
My god at least with a dog you have a 5-7 window time that they can have them. Boy these large window time frames are a killer on the body and mind. The dogs are usually in the house with me and can be monitored a lot closer. Sorry I do not have a foal cam so I have to walk out there each time. Lucky, those that do have a cam.

Anybody out there having as much fun at foal watching as I??? Please share some to help wait the time away!
Good luck foal watching to all!!

Raven, my husband and I do have a foaling cam. although we did not have one last year and this made it very hard. I don't know if you know it or not but we bought our complete cam for only drum roll please $39.00 and it was the most simple thing to install. It even has night vision. Anyhow I had no idea you could get them so cheap. But if you would like to put one in your barn you can get them at Harbor Freight here is the link if you might be interested:
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=91851
and you can make the cord longer just go to best buy and purchase a simple phone cord that matches the one the cam comes with.
We just dug a little trench about 6" by 6" and ran the cord from the barn to the house (about 100 ft for us) then drilled a hole in the wall and ran it in to the TV. That simple and the cam is weather proof, and in color. I just loved it. But I just tought I would tell you about that just incase you where like me and did not have one just because you thought you could never aford one lol. Anyhow this will be our first foaling season with the cam, and so far I love it, I just flip the TV over to the cam and watch the horses in the comfort of my warm toasty bed. :-) You could have it too. lol.

I have to agree with the camera's. The going out every half an hour really sucks. I have 2 camera's going at the moment with 2 seprate monitors and my regular tv. Can watch my favorite programs and watch my shows. Couldn't do it any other way. Only way to keep you sane!

Thank you Kassie for the info about the cams. I did find that they have a store on the other side of the boarder about an hour from here. Have to go and get one hopefully before this foal comes but they are predicting 2 inches of snow today, yuk! I supose even after the foal is born the cams are great for watching what is going on in the stall.
Can anyone tell me is it normal for the wax to fall off all the time also this morning she has what looks like powder sugar around her nipples?

Another question....Do all the mares get that v shaped belly before birth? Also I have been checking her temp the last few days and it has been ranging between 97.7 and 98.2 does this mean she is getting close as well?
Any input from some of you that are more experianced on this would be appreciated.

Raven,
the wax will fall off and will probabally reform at some time, alot of times if the wax has fallen off, the milk will start squirting when they are close and expereinced mares moreso than maiden mares. For us we dont' see the v shape in every mare, again , we see it in the more expereinced mare. I believe that the temp thing is not the most accurrate way to determine the timing of birth as the core body temp is what you are after and the core for a mare is deep. Some people that keep track of it every year and are vigulant about it may see a change but not a good thing to go by. I would imange too that outside temps could affect the body temp. as well. So trying to go by a change in temp by a degree or two would not be a stable change.

Thank you Kim, she is experianced at this. This will be her 7th foal and my first. According to her other owner she will only wax up 48-24 hrs before and about 12 hrs before birth she will have milk squirting out. I've seem alot of wax but no milk when the wax comes off. He did say that she does v up. But unfortunatly she is not doing what she normally does with me. Because she has been waxing since last week and no foal.

Raven, I know when my mares wax close to foaling, the wax covers their back legs and the milk is squirting as they walk or shift their weight on thier back legs ! If it just little bits of wax you might have a few days. When we talk about wax , its heavy and looks like clear candle wax dripping from thier teats.

Good luck
Kim

Thanks again Kim, Yes the wax does look like candle wax dripping and it is fairly heavy on her. I knocked one off to see how quickly it would reappear and it took about 3/4 hr to start coming back. The wax mounds up on her teats and is about 1/2 inch thick.
I know I probably sound like a stupid person but this is my first foal.

Only the unasked question is a stupid one, you don't learn unless you ask. I pick someones brains everychance I get.
I would say your very close to foaling. :-)

don't feel bad for asking questions. That just means you care about your mare and want the best things for her. If you where not asking questions then we would be worried. . The only reason I know now as much as I do is because I have asked about a million questions and still have a trillion more to go.
Your mare sounds like she could go soon. Keep us posted. And post pictures of that baby when it arrives. Looking at other ppls foals is the only thing getting me by until my mare foals.

If I can figure out photobucket , anyone can!
My computer skills are not the greatest and I was able to do the photobucket thing on my own, although I had already gone through the problems with downloading pics into the computer, I have trouble finding them in the different folders in the computer! LOL...

Well 5:45 pm and still nothing. She had been outside today for most of the day and still looks the same. Just tiny little amount of waxing though. Yesterday and the day before she had lots. I did notice today when I brought her outside that she looks like, on her ankles that honey has dripped on them? Looks like it is there from her laying down. Is it wax dripping or milk on there???? She is on day 343 today.

Kassie, I have one of my boarders going to the states and she is picking me up a cam from Harbour Frieght. YIPPY!! Better late than never, maybe I will not have to go out every hour to check on her as I did last friday night and stay up all night. Question about the cable for it, is it just your ordinary phone line cable that you would use to extend your line in the house?

As far as waiting I have always wanted to have a foal ever since I got my very first mare back in 1978. Boy is it a long wait!!!
I'll let you know later on what is happening.
Thanks gals!

It is probabally a combonation of wax and milk. It drips and normally hits the hind legs. And chances are its from her when she is standing. She is close to foaling ! :-)

I believe that habor freight has a web site.

www.harborfreight.com

give it a try, if its going to be a bit of time, it might be better to have them ship it !
keep us informed !
Good luck

well gals I just came back in from feeding and she is having mild contractions and if I knock off the wax about 10- 20 minutes it appears again?
Is it close! I'm supose to go and get my new truck now. How much time would you think I have?
Hours or 1 day?????

I would guess that she will foal this evening sometime, but .....:-) She could decide to wait another day . It sounds as if she maybe has "waxed" and acted a bit funny since saturday or so... I would think you are getting real close
And normally when you decide to step out , you guessed it , she will foal....They normally foal quickley too , not like humans hours of hard labor ! They are the smart ones!
yes, that is what I have been told are milk veins, they can swell all the way up to the chest too.

Good luck

And yes it is just regular phone cord. I think it needs to have either 4 or 6 wires in the plug part. You will see what it looks like when you get the cam. Keep us posted on your mare. :-)

Came back and checked on her again. She is kind of restless, off on eating head in corner so I gave her a bum massage. (Ya laugh all you want to). When I was doing this she would tilt her bum with it. That was an hour ago. I'm on my way out again to check on her.

Raven, I AM laughing, but only because my mare does the exact same thing . I crack up when i'm in the stall with her. She'll literally walk backwards and push her rear into me so i'll rub it. Scared the daylights out of me when she first did this because I was sitting down on a bucket and I thought she was going to sit on my lap, lol! They trully are just big babies themselves.

Well now we have a bit of a yellowish discharge from her vuvla and she is very warm to the touch. Picking at her hay. I have noticed as well that her poop has changed consitancy from this morning to tonight. This morning it was your normal black color and hard now it is a brown color and starting to soften.

GUESS IT IS GOING TO BE A LONG NIGHT !!!!!!

Thanks Kassie and everyone else.
The night has just started I'll keep you up to date as long as I can.

My mare is constantly stalking me backwards looking for a scratch. I had friends over and was showing them the horses, it was a little embarassing in front of non-horsey people to have her keep sticking her rear end in our faces! They gave me the polite, but this is weird look which ended the tour of the pasture!

She is now laying down on her side with some heavy breathing, no pushing or contractions that I can see.One hind foot is covered in straw from the milk or wax dripping on it. Cannot tell what color it is ( she does not like you to touch her udders). Huge belly!! Vulva looks a bit swollen.
Since last friday night, at night time only, I leave a heat lamp on she always has been under it. Now she is laying under it, warmth must feel good. Mind you the barn is about 40 right now. No cow patty in there.
I'll check back in a 1/2 hr.

Raven,
Sympathy sleep out to you!! Your mare is doing the exactly same thing mine did last month. Boy...did I feel foolish at first. Mine went in/out of Stage I labor for 3 days :-) . Actually started on a Sat. evening. Everytime she saw me, or a dog barked she'd put the brakes on. Wouldn't leave her on Sunday. Went to work on Monday...came home and checked on her at Noon and found her flat out, grunting, groaning, sweating. She got up..did a few circles, went down a few times. I called the vet and had them on standby. Put my chair in the isle way of the barn and she started eating hay. She did this over and over again 'til that Tues night, when she couldn't hold back anymore.
The poor dear paced for 3 days. She foaled in 4 minutes (from start to finish). Baby practically crawled out on his own!
While you are probably as tired as I can appreciate, we all know you are excited and having fun. Keep us updated because we are anxiously waiting with you!

BLOODY HELL!!!!

NOT A THING!!!!

Well as of now, I have been up for 24 hrs straight and I just came back in from my last check and she is sound asleep under the heat lamp!! HUHH I see at least one of us got to sleep alittle. lol
Her poop is semi soft, large swollen vulva, starting to open up at the top of it,belly hanging low but not totaly v'd (like I have seen in pictures),back is starting to drop so you can just see the back bone. Of course today is the day I started to book grooms again figuring she would have had it by now. DUHH foolish me! I know she will have it when everyone else is able to watch but me. THATS it vacumm comes out and we will suck it outmaybe my only way!!
Can we all say FRUSTRATING!!!

Saga continues.......

Oh Raven... you poor thing...it will be soon! hang in there! youre closer than I am! Youll have to begin napping when she does, just like a 2 legged mom does when new baby arrives. Good lock...it will be soon, probably when you least expect it...and youll be sooooo MAD...but it will all be forgotten when you see the beautiful baby!

So sorry for all your missed sleep. But it will come soon enough and then it will all be worth it. If you get that cam that will make it much easier. Another thing is have you thought about speeping in the stall with her or just outside it? If it is cold you could use a heated blanket. We used our hamock and a heated blanket and slept pretty good last year. I know you can buy those folding cots at walmart. well any how just a thought. But I do hope she foals soon, as she is getting me tired, just running in her every little bit to check and see if you have posted any news lol. Good Luck, I will be going through all this in just a little over a month or so.

As of 8 am, the honey colored wax is starting to turn clear with a hint of white. Her poops are a bit softer yet, when they drop you can hear the softness to them. Sorry after being up all night, I'm not great at sound effects! Of course the cam is suppose to come today sometime. Lot more of lifting up the tail even though there is nothing to it. She did get real crabbie when I tapped her belly gently and asked "when are you coming out...soon?"

God I hope it is soon!!

I'll try my best to keep you all posted as to how she does throughout the day.
Thank you for all the LUCK keep it coming.

You go girl! I do really feel for you. I am getting about 5 hours per day, but it's starting to wear on me. I woke up from a nap today and sat bolt upright babbling that I needed to get Cayenne Pepper on my yearling's tail or he won't be able to swat flys this spring and summer. The other yearlings have been eating it. Anyway, when he came in this evening I was like, ehh you'll be fine. Went to buy horse feed yesteday and filled out the only check I had left wrong!
It sounds to me like as soon as you get your camera up and running she will have it and wonder why you were so worried in the first place. I'm hoping your closer to 3 hours!
Good Luck!

Raven,
do you know any history on the mare? I have several mares that foal at the same time or there abouts every year . Is she a night time foaler or daytime ? I think most foal in the wee hours of the morning , but I have one that foals generally in the daytime-but they can through a fast one in on you too!
You know whats going to happen ? Don't you ? The minute you close your eyes, or turn your back the baby will come! AAUUGGHH...thats what happened to me last year. I had to run and pick the kids up, gone less than 30 minutes in the evening and came home and there she was!

Keep it up , its worth it.

LOL Kris you are cruel..

Melissa- I've seen a mare drip milk all day long and then not foal till night and then I've seem them start to drip and foal within a couple of hours. It depends on the mare, just do your best to not disturb her and check on her frequently. My friend decided she needed to groom her mare (she was dirty from rolling last night) and braid her tail, she drug her out of the stall and cleaned her up.. now she'll probably get to wait a while on that baby to come.

Raven, I truly feel your pain. My mare (due any day )had diarrhea extremely bad the other night as well as wouldn't eat, biting sides, pacing, etc. NOTHING!! The doc said the diarrhea was due to the foals positioning. That was 2 days ago. Trust me, I'm with you on this foal watch. I can't count how many times I've said "it's going to be tonight, I know it!" Here's to hoping your girl goes soon and all is well

Amber, we have been saying that same thing since november! Our draft mare has to pop anyday now! We don't know her bred date so it is making things even harder! We took the day we got her and that is 357 days today!

Hey Kris, if it is another month of nights like these. You can have her for that duration and I'll take the foal.....thank you! lol

Well 3 hrs come and 3 hrs gone....very little belly change thats about it! SO...I made an executive decision and went a got chinese food, take out of course! Suited me just fine, it did. Going to try to sleep for 2 hr limits and check on her. Tonight I am on my own with this one, my friend had enough of false alarms.
She is getting crabbier specially if you touch around her flanks. I think just about every vein in her legs and belly are bulging out. To say that the milk is actually dripping ...no, no squirting out that is or drops on the teats nothing like I have seem before with the dogs. It just got clearer looking with a hint of white to it. Poop is still the same as last.

Kim K- the previous owner only stated that she will wax 48-24 hrs before, wax will crack and 12 milk will squirt out as she walks. Also that she will get the milk veins. But as far as any other signs he does not look for them. She has foaled at night for the last two with know one around. He waits to see them in the morning.
BUT I WANT TOO SEE IT !!!! Thats the whole idea of having a foal, being there from when they first hit the ground. Isn't that the reason WHY we put ourselves through this kind of torture time and again each year with the last one saying I had enough...but we do it again in a heartbeat!!(well this is my first, but speaking for those of you that are experianced at this).
Duty calls, time to feed and watch mom for a bit.

HOPE TONIGHT, HOPE TONIGHT, that is all we can say!

Hi Raven,

For me.. the milk is one of the most reliable things to look for. even on our maiden mare. she had the golden or amber colored "milk" for ever and it got really sticky, but the moment it looks like skim milk, you should have a baby within 24 hours.

On one of my other groups, the whole group (myself included ) tastes the milk. If it is salty or bland... no baby, but when the milk gets sweet...look out!!!

Good Luck!

Well as the old saying goes no news is good news!
WRONG!
No news means no foal!!

Sleep over came me last night but I did manage to get up once about 2:45 am and check on her. As I rounded the corner in the barn her she is looking out her door with her ass end under the heat lamp(favourite spot). Did find lots of poop in the though. Did not eat all her grain.
Just finishing my coffee before I go out again. I'll be back in about 3-4 hrs from now unless she has had it. Then I'll be back on earlier to tell.

Robin and Heather- those were great articles!

Yippy...cam came this am. Now I'll have to pull the technical brain out of me to hook it up.HEHE if I can find it amongst all this foal stuff.
No more changes that I can see. I was able to get my friends digital cam and got some pics for you all (but another technical thing)Try to get this done as well so you all can tell me what you think and see if you see what I do.
A bit of an ice storm hit lastnight and today so my clients canceled out. All day now to play with everything and finally be able to watch her from the house!

Thats great Raven. You will love the cam. I did, and do. It makes it so easy to check on the mare. We just leave the cam on all night and since it has sound we can hear if anything is going on in the barn. Also I set my alram to wake up every half hour to hour, and just roll over and look at the tv what fun. lol.

I love my cam. I have had it up and running for over a month and I love to just watch what she does when no one is around. She has a very consistant routine and I hope knowing this will help detect changes in behavior when she is closer. The cam has the "fish tank" effect on my family and we stand around staring at it like something exciting is going to happen!
Raven - interesting that there is an ice storm - kind of fits into the mare's secret code of when to foal! Maybe you should order a pizza and let her hear you.

Well gals, I think I have all the pics right now.
http://photobucket.com/albums/e107/rav123en/?sc=1
I hope I did it right. Please tell me if not.

Also tell me what you all think she is about to do or due? Does everything look like it is running fairly norm for this stage? She is actually bigger than in the pictures of her front view(was not cooperating this morning)very crabby!
The picture of Striker is the stud that she was breed to.
Now I have to figure out this cam deal. Unfortunatley we did not get much of the storm, ice and bit of snow but colder temps.

Raven, the very first cam I bought from Harbour Freight did not work either I had to take it back and get a new one. eek wonder if that is a problem with them. But my second one worked just fine.

I am not a real smart person with electronics, all i Know is double check to make sure it is all hooked up right. Also if your TV has the audio video ports in the fromt, you may have to turn the TV to the right channel. some are channle 3, ours is Video 1, and our other TV i Aug (whatever that means lol) hope that helps some.

Undid that cam and put the original one on and viola cam picture! My stupidity....hey we're just human.:-)

Okay....cams rolling now, we need ACTION!!!

Have to pass time away some how! At least I know I'm on the right direction. Thanks gals!!

Forgot to tell all that she ended up on the big tv! I, on the other hand have to watch the small
one. HUH! How fair is that? Amazing what crazy horse people do for their horses!
No idealy....if I can figure out some way to put the computer by the tv, I'll be all sent. Then you would really be able to have play by play action! Cats are even sitting on the couch watching the foal cam.

I love cats!! They are such good company and terrific foot warmers. My little cam tv was in the kitchen...wasn't too comfortable sitting on that chair in a blanket for 4 days.....wanted a real tv myself. Keep the faith, and remember to take the CAMERA to the barn when she foals.....something forgotten in the moment on my end :-) .

Heather way ahead of you on the camera..... it has not left the barn since last friday! Thank god I'm not that camera! :-)

Lady was shifting her weight so much last night that I'm going to start playing some mexican music to go along with her doing the salsa. Her tail has been raised up a bit more. She did start to circle and paw the ground though....i get all excited..nope looking for more hay. BUMMER.
It seemed like the only time she would start to have any sort of contractions was when she went outside for the day. So saddle is coming out and we are going for a ride!!!! This foal is coming one way or another!
Anyone else found that if their mare were out that it brought on the birthing process quicker?
On one of the other thread some one had send in a website with an article about when the mare is due (I think it was called) anyway I sent it over to my freind who has been with me the two nights of false alarms. This is what she sent back to me:

Hell according to this Lady should have had her foal two weeks ago you fall under the very first rule

No foal shall be born until total chaos has been reached by all involved. Your house must be a wreck, your family hungry and desperate for clean clothes, and your social life nonexistent.

Mo

That about sums it up perfectly for those of us waiting on a foal arrival.
OOOOHHHHH when is it CCOOMMIINNGG!!!

About 10 minutes ago Lady decided to lay down and have a big power roll. Now she is just laying there once in a while she will sit up and look at her belly ( but I think she still knows I'm watching. Of cource her ass end is away from the cam but under the heat lamp.

We'll see what happens......

Why do these horses have to do this to us? Raven I am currently waiting on my draft mare to foal, and she has been playing games with us since Nov.
I have to new quotes for you:
Can you really watch an ice berg melt? We are saying this because she seems to not be changing anymore.
And a watched pot doesn't boil(this came from people I work with, sick of hearing about our mare I think)!
Any one else feel this way?

Gals,

Quit your killing me with laughter

As a matter of fact I watch Days of our Lives. Unfortunatley my life is not as exciting as theirs. Huh ...it is better, especially when you add a horse in. :-)

Ladys old owner came in this morning to check and see if she has had it yet. Boy was he suprised to find no foal.He could not get over how well she looked, he has never seem any dappling on her like she has on her ass. I had to remind him that Lady is at my house and the STRANGEST things happen here. What is normal is not normal here. My vet jokes all the time that I need to have an excorsite performed on this place. LOL

Ladys pushed her ass up against the back wall and started to dance with her back feet (picking them up high). Guess she is practicing to be a rockette! Or trying to keep the foal from coming out! Just my luck! Smart ass horse...

Almost there now.. god I love this cam!!!!

Raven, take it as a compliment... I have always been told that the dappling is from being fed well.... I have many horses that dapple but you change feed and their hair coat changes.

Anyways, did the previous owner believe she would foal soon ? Please say yes ! We know she has to have it some time! The mare just wants to give you what you bargined for and make you wait long and hard. Did you say this was your first foal ? She wants to make sure that you are going to be able to stand up to this foal thing, you make through it once , you'll do it again!
Later.... I think we should make a thread under Waiting on Raven!

I think so too, whose going to start the thread?
i too am a "days" fan, that is why i wrote that, i actually will stop watching my soap to check in on this one!!! :-)
Man the anticipation has got to be driving you nuts!!! it is me! (for you, its not even my mare!!!)
well....soon (i think ive said that now for what 2, 3, 4 days?)
I really would love to get a camera, but you know how those husbands are..."ummm...no...why so you can watch that all day and all night and get nothing done around here?" then everytime i run off to check on ravens story he follows me and tells me im terrible and whacked out (lovingly and joking of course) but he defineately says no i do not need a camera!!!
im upset...maybe i can talk him into it...yeah right, ill just start sleeping outside and standing at hte window more than i already do adn when i dont come to bed at night and he is upset i can say,...see if you let me get a camera i can hook it up to the bedroom t.v. and then i can kill 2 birds with one stone!
maybe that will work...if all else fails try blackmail...right?
well ill check back in while...hopefully to see an exciting post....in the mean time I'll wait for the announcement

You gals are KILLING me severly with laughter!!!!

I was able to step out for 1/2 hr checked on her before I left and when I can back home I could not find her in the cam view...PANIC! Went out in the barn and her she was snug against the wall out of view. The rotten little sob. She actually had a smirk on her face. Kind of "WHO ME"look. I tell ya, Lady knows that cam is there. She has the gull to start to circle and look like she is going to lay down, waits looks at the cam, decided... gotta! and walks off.

The owner did say when he brought her here that she is going to think she is in the tashmahall, being pampered and all. He came in one night as I was brushing her down, his quote "She never got brushed like that at my house". I personally think that she is hanging onto this baby so she can get pampered to death. Lady don't want to share, her momma didn't teach her that one.

Hey Kris tell hubby that if you did have a cam it actually would make it easier on you and the family. This way you can watch it while doing housework, cooking, spending time with him,etc and you never have to leave the house to go to the barn at all hours of the day and night. It's called MULTI-TASKING you know that thing, that women are great at! Come on we are SUPERWOMEN!
Hey, blackmail will work too! Now don't go and miss any of the soaps just for little ol' me and Lady.

Kim K not a problem about the new thread. Just let me know where and when!! I had heard that as well about dappling and I did take it as a compliment especially from him. I tried to pat myself on the back but it is kind of hard to do right now besides it would hurt.

But you all do realize that once this foal is born, where do we go from there???? Soap opera is....done,over,kibosh can't kill anyone off. Are we going to have to have a "Ravens Anonymos" meeting now and again for all you addicts.

Oh supper has arrived along with my foal watching friend. Later

PLEASE STAY TUNED TO THE NEXT EPISODE OF "DAYS OF RAVEN" to hear what happens.......

ok guys and girls heres my progress, she is very crabby and wont let me touch her much less feel her udders and milk her so that parts out, her poop is a milk chocolate color and shes been snorting at everything in the stall. she wont drink but shes still eating and pooping so i know shes not colicing. she did try to lay down once but got right back up and shes been turning circles. from what i can see she looks like shes about half way bagged up alot more than the other day. what do i look for now?

Raven,
I dont know if you know this or not but a mare can hold off her labor for a couple days if she feels threatened, when you went to the barn you might have unintentionally scared her so she put it off,so now you might get a foal when you least expect it,what you possibly walked in on was beginning labor which they can shut off. What I have done for years since I learned that little tid bit of info is starting down to the barn a week or so before the mare is due, every evening several times and I leave a light on so they get used to me coming back and forth,in the last 4 years since I started this I have attended 7 out of 8 foalings, the 8th I was just too beat to get out in time, found the little filly still wet and just starting to stand.I will have to get one of those cameras though, but that is a long run to my barn from the house,300 feet. That would be so much easier than getting up in the middle of the night and tromping outside in your pj's,most of my babies have been born between 1-3 am,but I did have one go at 9am.Good luck on your foal watching,it is a real good time to get caught up on some reading.

SDS, actually if you followed through on Raven's Story you would see that she did have her foal back on Mar 3. And I am aware of the holding pattern that the mares can have. Least expect it I did not,my mare normal pattern was way out and she delivered me a colt at 6:50 pm with me present. Normal pattern is at night time foaling with abosolutly no one around. SO I guess I was blessed!

Most of ours foals come about 3-4 am, but one mare always has hers about 10-11 am. Now the two mares that foaled last year both gave us a huge suprise and foaled between 6-9 pm. Yep ! That was a huge suprise--the goat kidded that same week about 630 pm, so it must have been something in the air!
