The mare had last years baby on January 26. I dont think she was bred on her foal heat. So I am going off her second heat, which would put her due date around February 5th +/-
This mare has been known to have her babies 2 weeks early in the past.
A little over three weeks ago her udder developed rather quickly and became huge early last week. Last thursday she had a little yellow/brown discharge. By the end of the weekend the discharge turned the color of dried blood. Its not alot of discharge by the way, just enough to notice. The past two days the discharge turned into a light red. The size of her udder has gone down and they dont look like they are going to explode anymore. The edema between her front legs is about twice the size it was 2 days ago. Also a few days ago her vulva was very relaxed and elongated but it was firm this morning. Her croup has been very relaxed an jello like and her tailhead i sticking out a little more then usual. Her belly looked alot pointer a few days ago then it does now. I am a little confused. Am I just going crazy from lack of sleep ? We all thought she was going to have it last weekend. Can someone help me out here ?

Alex, I think it might need a vet to come out and reassure you and to take a look at the situation. Sometimes we see the tummy getting pointy a few days to a week before foaling . I think that I would at least call the vet and speak to them and get thier opinion about your mares condition. Others that I have talked to say the bloody color discharge is ok a week prior but to have the animal checked out if it goes past a week without the birth just for the safty of things.

It sounds like your really worried so get that vets thoughts on it. You still are probabally still ok-- from the posts you've made.

Good luck
Kim
