My mare was U/S at 45 days and found to be pregnant. She is due mid April 2005, but I would like to know if there is a blood test (progesterone?) that I can perform now to "double check" that she is still pregnant. Just being a nervous "stepmom"

You can use a kit called the "Pregnamare" kit to test between about days 40-90. This tests for equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG). The only problem is that if the mare has lost the pregnancy after about day 36, she will still test pregnant using this test.
A more reliable test is for estrone sulfate, but cannot be reliably performed until about 100 days. There is a stall-side assay available now in the USA - go to the FoalProof web site for more details.
