I have a maiden mare that is at day 313 today. Last night I heared a God awful noise from her stall and huslted out to check her. This is my first foal also. She was lying down with the tail going a mile a minute and periodically grunting and shifting her legs and hind end. Called my kids and we took up out watching spots outside of the stall and waited. Same behavior continued about 15 minutes then she heaved herself up and started munching her hay. Watched her about another hour and everything seemed fine so I went back to bed. This am she lit into her grain and hay with gusto and aside from having a slightly fuller bag seems just fine. Still restless with tail and back legs shifting etc. I believe from my readings what she experienced was normal but am somewhat concerned that at day 313 that may be putting her to early if labor follows these prelims. Any thoughts. I am trying to remain calm.

Most likely contractions or the foal moving and making things uncomfortable - not unusual at this stage.
If you have further concerns though, a call to the vet is always advisable.
