Today one of the mares got touchy and kicked (double barreled) one of the other mares in the stomach right where the foal is. The mare that was kicked is 9 months pregnant. Would this cause the mare to abort? It never seemed to bother her much and she is fine tonight but I am just worried. It made such a loud sound.
It can, but doesn't usually - the uterus is really well protected, and it takes alot ofd trauma to upset things. If she doesn't show any signs of aborting/colic in the first 24 hrs., you are probably safe. I saw a mare once lose her footing (running)and land very hard on her side - hard enough to knock the wind out of her - the foal came out normal a couple weeks later.
