I have always used an ivermectin wormer like equalvan, etc because it is broad spectrum, normally non resistent and safe for pregnant mares. But recently there has been studies indicating that the round worm is becoming resistent to ivermectin so I am now looking to start rotating wormers. I was thinking about rotating with Strongid T (pyrantel pamoate) on the right schedule but I am not sure if it is safe for pregnant mares. I went to Pfizer website but I couldn't find out for sure. Does any know?

The Only wormer I know for sure that is NOT safe for pregnant mares is Quest.

I alternated with Ivermectin and Strongid during my Mares pregnancy with out any problems

I also use Zimectrin and Strongid thru my mare's pregnancy, have never had any problems. My vet also advised that Quest was NOT safe.

Can mares be kept on there regular worming schedule throughout pregnancy? I read that they should be dewormed after nine months. My mare is nine months now and I would like to give her one more wormer, is this safe? (Ivermectin, of course).
Also, has anyone had any experience or know anything about the safety/effects of that new 911 Emergency tube? It says it treats colic, scours, gut ache, and stress, and I thought it would be good to have around, but I don't know how safe it is. Thanks for any info.

I have always kept my mares on regular deworming schedules and have never had a problem. I have actually been told by my equine vet that it is good to deworm them approx. 30 days prior to their foaling date, and I have always done that and it has never caused a problem with the pregnancy or the foaling process.
Hope that's some comfort.
