The tendency for Clubbiness ( High heels) can be an aquired.. My mare has a tendency to be "clubby" on her right foot.. She has a preference for putting all her wght on her left and working on her left lead... Hence the farrier has to work at making sure we do not leave her with a lot of heel on her right esp.
For me it requires that I do a lot of conditioning work to build up her Right side/shoulder muscles to better balance her out.
She was not born this way nor this way when I purchased her as a 2 yr old .. this happened mainly because one she puts more wght on the left AND my Old Farrier did not do any thing to correct it..
I have a new farrier who recognizes the issues and is trimming accordingly. Her feet look the best I have seen in years. You can still see her angles are slightly off but it is not as noticiable. Plus you can only take so much heel off at a time... too much and you can run into problems . The Key with my mare is to keep her on a trimming schedule and stick to it... I expect to have her problem resolved in about 2 more trimming sessions.
A truely clubbed foot that is present at birth can be genetic ... are there other offspring with club feet from the mare or stallion? and if that is the case I would have your farrier look at the foal as quickly as possible to see if corrective measures can be done.
