Would really appreciate some advice ASAP, our vet is out of town! Our mare foaled on May 5th, she had a very hard time expelling her placenta and we finally had to administer Oxytocin, Banamine and Penicillin. The placenta was all there. Today, May 8th, She has a thick yellowish discharge coming from her vulva. She is currently on 25cc of Penicillin, once a day. Should we increase the dosage? Should we have (a) vet come? Is there a procedure to clean her out? Is there something "WE" can do? What do we need to be aware of as far as medicinal side-effects relative to the foal due to nursing? Thank you for any help offered.

I would have a vet come and lavage her. I would not gamble on an infection now. Your vet is the best source of help with this. Penicillin may not be the drug of choice in this situation.
