HI.. (sorry if you get this twice, new at message boards)
I had a mare abort an 8 month pregnancy last week.. The pathology on the fetus showed that the tissues were LOADED with Rhodococcus Equi. As I understand it there is no vaccination for this virus.. I am wondering, what if anything I can do to combat this in terms of my other pregnant mares and also newborns and other young foals here. I live in Oregon, not an area that commonly has problems with this Virus. the mare in question came from Wisconsin, a place my vet says has more problems with this.. I got the mare 2 months before she was bred. Is it possible that she still had the virus in her system at breeding time? or do you think she actually picked it up here? Will she have this problem again? Of course I am going over everything with my vets here but would appreciate any other insights into this.. I value my mares and foals to much to not do everything I can to fix this.
thanks wendy
