Hello- I just had my mare check in foal (30 days). She has been out of work, and I am slowly bringing her back to light work. (No jumping, very little cantering) I do not plan to work her hard at all- however she is overweight (Not obese, but overweight) and has had this problem. I want to slim her down a bit, but am worried that less food will mean less for the unborn foal.
Thanks

I would caution about any drastic change until she is at least 90 days along. At that time, you can adjust her feed accordingly. Her body may see the added exercise along with less nutrition as a less than ideal situation to support a growing fetus.
