Hello~ Just wondering how many people have mares running late this year. I have a mare who foaled on 334 days......and 339 days that last two foals.....So far this year she is at day 358....bagged up and showing some signs but not showing any signs on going soon. I have heard several people comment that many mares are going late this year. Anyone else finding this?

my mare is at day 340, bagged up, teats swollen and milk there. Her tail croup has relaxed and is mushy on either side at the base and her vulva is relaxed and swollen. She holds her tail up and her rectum is swollen out also. She walks as if her hind quarters hurt too. Any suggestions as to when she might foal?? We are all new at this!!

I have a mare carring a mule colt and today she is 365 from last day breed. Has milk, relaxed vulva, is mushy on hips, walks stiff in rear legs. But no foal yet still waiting. 5-9-05

I haven't posted here before but have been lurking and found these boards an enormous reference. Much help. My paint mare is currently on day 371. Just a 'little' "late". ;) She is a maiden, I must forgive her. She's been bagged up for a month and been bagged all day for just over a week. Her backend is jell-o to her croup and she walks with the stiff-legged-broodmare-waddle.

HeeHee , this is a good subject!!! My maiden is 348 days today. It stinks. . We thought she was going to go early because of bag development, but the bag development left and is very slow in coming back.... Finally last night I noticed some positive changes, but nothing that tells me it's going to be anytime soon.

My mare is 346 days today, udder is huge, butt end is like jello, belly is dropped. I checked her milk this morning with the test strips and it has actually regressed. So, all I can do is more waiting.
The latest she has ever foaled before was 356 days. I'm thinking she just might beat that this year.

My mare is at day 350 today, udder large, jello-ed out too, slab sided, vulva elongated, and the test strips actually regressed too!!! All my mares foaled late this year, one at 358 and the other 349, so why should I think she'd be different? We had 3 squares change a couple days ago, today only one changed! Anyone know why??

Because she's been talking to my maiden and wants to make you as crazy as I am?!? Honestly I don't know but if it's anything like udder development, I see that many mares make bags, then regress and are still normal

my maiden mare is at 351 days now, and has been showing signs for weeks! she started bagging up over a month ago and has occasionally dripped (but not streamed) milk for the last 12 days. her milk is still translucent white, but it is very easy to express and a couple of times she has dripped enough over the course of a day to coat her hind legs. vulva is slackened, tail is increasingly flaccid. wax has been appearing intermittently since june 2! no vaginal discharge or signs of discomfort. ack. waiting is so hard! vet may re-palpate monday if we still don't have a foal on the ground by then.

Hi becca, I am no expert by any means, but if your mare has been showing all of these signs and still has not had the foal i owuld get the vet out there. If nothing else she may be loosing all that much needed colostrum. When My maiden mares milk turned cloudy 2 days later I had a baby. And if she has had wax since June 2nd, i would get vet out just to make sure everything is ok, but if possible i would not wait until monday unless it is just necessary. With a maiden mare you never know. she may just be making sure you are ready! LOL Good Luck and I know the waiting is very hard to do, but hang in there. You will have a beautiful baby on the ground soon hopefully. Mine never did show discomfort. She just laid down and had her colt. no signs except the milk. Happy Foaling!!!
