My mare was recently in a kicking match with another pregnant mare. How it happened I don't know, however, my mare was kicked in her milk bag (slightly behind the teets) and literally ripped a hole in her bag and punctured her mammory gland. She started leaking milk from the tear. She has been placed on antibiotics late in her pregnancy. Is this ok? Any help will be great.

The placing of a mare on antibiotics late in pregnancy should cause no problems.

Hope she recovers soon!

Hi there! My mare has just developed and abcsess in her right front hoof apparently due to a tiny chip off the corner of her coffin bone. The vet said the chip was not a concern and will be healed by the time the abcsess is cleared up. He had me put her on Uniprim for 7 days. Is this safe? She was 92 days along when diagnosed, my vet said it was safe for her, however the package insert says the effects of the product on the unborn foal have not been determined. She has been on it for 3 days now, but my worrying is getting the better of me.
