I have done alot of reading and decided that it would be better to give my quarter horse her shot she is just now coming onto her 5th month and i would like to know which brand is the best for her..I have read on the 2 that are available to me pneumabort-k by Fort Dodge and Prodigy by Intervet I would really like input on which one would be best to give her

I switched to Prodigy when one of my mares kept having an injection site reaction to Pneumabort-K. My other mares had no issues with it but I wasn't going to use 2 different products.

Cathy, my mare has the same reaction and this year she's going to get the Prodigy too, although if I remember correctly, it only protects against 1 strain of the virus and Pneumobort protects against 2 strains. I also did give my mare her 4 way vaccine in the hip this last time along with a dose of Recovr which is an antihystamine of sorts, she had no reaction at all that time. You might give it a try. Good luck, Ev.

Hi! I'm a newbie here, but just have to add that my TB mare keeps having a reaction to the Pneumabort K vaccine. She gets a large lump at the injection site that hasn't abcessed - yet! It usually takes a month or more for it to go down even with icing it. I hesitate to give her bute or Banamine since she has had some serious ulcers in the past. I had the vet give her last rhino in her chest and it's bigger than ever! She can hardly walk she's so sore. I feel so bad for her! She isn't due until next June so she has a lot more shots to go!

Lynne, ask your vet about the Recovr, I'm not sure which company makes it, but I can check the bottle at home. Avery STILL has lumps on both sides of her neck from those shots this spring, they are gradually getting smaller and I hope in time they'll go away. I massage them and she acts like it feels good and I've been putting some linament on them, don't know if that helps, but it makes me feel a little better doing it. Her first pneumobort shot will be due in October this year, I dread giving it to her, she'll get it in the hind leg this time along with the Recovr, I'll post when we do it to let everyone know if it makes a difference in the reaction she has.
