I have a 22 year old mare who was partially blind when she foaled last year, but is now completely blind and due to foal in May. I am worried about her stepping on the next foal, and am wondering if they will be okay together? Also, I would like to rebreed her and would need to haul her either to a stud or to the vet's place to recieve chilled semen; could I do this safely? I would appreciate advise from anyone, as my 2 vets are giving me mixed messages!!!

I know of several mares that are blind and yet have had few problems with their foals. Obviously you will not be able to turn the foal out, which can be a major problem with some animals. As far as the mare stepping on the foal - this may happen, but mares tend to be very good about this at the best of times; and a blind mare will probably be even more careful.
Hauling the mare and foal to the stallion or the vets may be a little more difficult. I think I would feel inclined to keep them at home - that is of course one of the advantages of using transported semen!
Good luck!
