What are the average number of embryos usually harvested in a horse? Is it the same as cows?

Mares generally only ovulate a single follicle and will not respond to standard super-ovulation techniques such as a cow will. Consequently (allowing for the ocassional mare that will ovulate 2 follicles), the average is only just a little over 1.
There has been some work with super-ovulating mares using equine pituitary extract obtained from mare cadavers and the technique seems to be efficient, but because of the methods and materials used it is limited to research settings only.

Umberto: Since it is so important for fertilization, the timing of ovulation and inpregnation of the mare either naturally or by AI what would be the benefits of ultrasounding the mare previous to ovulation and how many times can a particular mare can be ultrasounded in a day without affecting its reproductive status. It seems to me that just one time in a day is not enough due to the great variation found within mares and breeds in general.
