Jos, I'd love to hear about the procedure of freezing embryos! I just finished reading about a cryoprotectant called ethylene glycol (EG). Is this the best cryoprotectant to use?
Can embryos be frozen in a standard 5cc or .5cc semen straw?
Can they be frozen using the same technique used for frozen semen with the "floating rack"?
Where could someone purchase the necessary supplies such as the flushing filter and EG?
It doesn't seem like there is much needed in the way of special equipment to extract the embryo and retrieve the embryo. Of course the knowledge and experience is what gets the job done.
EG is good but you need to use only 1.5 Molar, you can freeze them only if you flush the mare 6 days after ovulation, only morulae or very ealy blastocysts and you need only cristal 0.25 ml straws (IMV ZA 133. They can't be absolutely frozen on a floating rack but you need an embryo freezer (Bio cool IV, or a Cryologic or a RPE freezer etc.) because you must do a seeding on your straws etc. The e.t. supplies are sold by many Company like AB Technology (Pullman WA) or PETS Inc. or AG Tech etc. I hope to have answered enough for your needs....but if you want ask me what you desire!
