Hello. New here, but wondering if anyone else has seen coat color changes in their mares? I've seen some darkening or lightening in the past, but I have a QH mare who is in excellent shape, bred for a late March / early April foal. She has always shown a lot of roaning (not reg. as roan) and lots of white in her tail. However, since getting in foal, she now has dark and white colored spots all over her back, barrel and abdomen. She is very healthy and if anything, a little heavy weight-wise right now. Just thought it was strange. Anyone?
I think this may be common in roans. I have a black roan mare who is 18 yrs old. She was registered (and looked like) a dun roan mare when she was young. One year, she had white spots show up on her shoulders, then the next year they were gone, and she now has black spots she's never had before. It's weird, and I mostly notice it as her winter coat is coming or going.
Thanks! As I said, the mare is reg. as a sorrel, but she has a lot of white throughout and in her tail. Just seemed strange that as soon as she got pregnant, white and nearly black circles started showing up.
