I have a mare that is getting close to foaling. I have no idea when she is due as I bought her and was told she got out and they didn't know for sure when. My best guess was she was due somewhere around Feb, March but could be as late as May. This will be my first foal. She has been slowly having changes in her udder for about a month now, with more noticeable change the last week with the bag loosing the change in the evening. last night she did not loosed her change and then this morning she had a very large one sided udder, with the other side having no change. Is this normal or should I be worried?
I will also add that I can't milk this mare as she wont let us touch her udder. Here is a link to some pictures of her udder a couple days ago and then today: http://s1202.photobucket.com/albums/bb362/lilhorsey/
well, welcome! Good to have you Lisa. This mare appears to be a little ways away still, judging from her udder. I'd keep an eye on it, as it is filling. I would bet you still have a week or 2 to go. The udders often fill separately, so that's nothing to worry about. Keep an eye on the udder and vulva! check out www.yellowhouseranch.com and click on the foaling link on the left to check out some great foaling signs
