I'm waiting on blood test results on whether my mare is pregnant or not. She's due to have her teeth done on tuesday next week and we'll be getting the results back around then. Is it ok to have her teeth done while pregnant or should I postpone until we know one way or the other? I'll also need to lightly sedate her (we normally use sedaline paste) as she got a bit upset last time (first time she'd been done without full sedation as previously she'd needed a lot of work - she's only 5) Is sedaline safe to use on a pregnant mare? |

According to the package insert, it should not be used in pregnant or lactating mares. |

Ok, definately won't be giving her that until we know for absolute whether she is or not. Do you know if the dental work in itself can cause problems? She'll tolerate some work, just won't stand for the full session yet. |

The dental work shouldn't present a problem. Mares can undergo a lot of stress and not have any reproductive issues. |

You need to avoid to go for a dental at the time of pregnancy as the pain in teeth sometimes affect the nerves. can i undergo dental treatment while pregnant http://www.wheniampregnant.com/medication/dental-treatment-in-pregnancy.html |

Big difference between horses (to which this website is dedicated) and humans (which is what the link is referring to). Different placental structure. Different sensory system. It's always risky to extrapolate other species information to the equine... |
