Some of you may not want to watch this but I think most will find it pretty interesting, especially if you have not been on the collecting end of a stallion.
We made this video today when we took our Friesian Stallion Hedzer to the vets to have his semen collected, they started off trying to
tease him with a mini but he was not having any of that then brought out my mare Queenie (black and white mare) which helped him out. I am
the one holding his lead rope the entire time, everyone else you see are vets or vet assistants

Hey Hope,
32 yrs of breeding horses experience and handling stallions .... where are your helmets???
Both handler and collector are at risk regardless of how well mannered ANY stallion is.. too easy for a hoof to fly out in the throes of romance.

That and next time get someone with a steady hand... to film....got alittle seasick with all the movement.. was collection successful??

A stallion his size would probably pretty much think a mini was strictly a lawn ornament...the big mare handled nicely!

I am sure you know what you are doing and follow the book EVERYTIME you collect but if I want instruction I will another course on AI.

Poor boy, it's so hard to find a good mare these days :-) That pony mare could be my teasing stud’s sister, seriously Those little ponies can pack a mighty punch I don't blame your boy for ignoring her. I love watching babies when they see a stud horse. "What is that scary big black stallion doing to my Mama?" Did I hear you right in the movie he's never done a live cover? Your boy makes me want to breed sport horses. My Stud's only hole is that the guy we bough him from would breed mares tied to a fence because he was sort of a funny one man operation, poor Tyroan still gets excided if he sees a girl not saddled tied to a fence, even if it's his eleven moth old daughter. If I ever raise my own stud prospect, he's going 100% AI.

PS I don't wear a helmet either ;) If Iget kicked in the head it's my own dam fault

correct, we don't use him for live cover.. We only do AI. He has actually done live cover twice when he was in CEM quarentine at UC Davis, he was there for 30 days after we imported him from The Netherlands. They have him a cover a mare twice while there, but we dont really count that, since then he only does the phantom mare.

The little baby is funny, when our stallion yells at our mare, the baby will whinnie back at him, but when walking him by the stallions stall and if Hedzer (stallion) has his head out his door the baby is all mouth.

BTW the black/white mare and baby is ours also, she was the one being AI'd, the baby is out of a friesian stallion. He is only 36 days old and stands 12 hands already.

another thing about our stallion, we do not breed him on our property, we dont want him associating our property with breeding, when he is home he is to be a working horse, when at the vets, he knows its for breeding.
I ride him in dressage and drive him also, he has a driving show next month I am taking him to.

here is some pictures of me driving him the other day

I breed QH but I realy want to get into driving. I realize that you don't see many Qh at cart but I have a shetland-ish teasing stud that needs a different job for the rest of the year, and two matched yearling dunskin fillies who would be drop dead gorgeous as a team pulling a black cart. I'm really two busy for a new discipline but I think I have the bug :-)

driving is fun, the cart and harness can get pretty expensive, but its fun. I taught myself and I taught my mare to drive. My stallion came to me already knowing how to drive and some dressage, so I got lucky there.

Yeah I’m looking into buying a two wheal training cart that is convertible, you just have to buy another set of wheels and shafts to work for anything from a 10h pony to a draft horse. It’s fairly reasonably priced but I keep talking my self out of it. I ground drive all my colts before we ride them so I don't think it will be that much of a leap; I just need to get a good book and spend the money. Pony stud really needs a job for the off season. Did you just go at it when you were learning or can you recommend a book or video?
