After we successfully bred our maiden stallion for the first time yesterday, my DH asked me if it would be a good idea to work him soon after he bred a mare. In a way I think yes, work him so that he gets right back into the mode of being "just a horse", but on the other hand I wouldn't want him to think that he's being worked because he bred a mare. What do you more experienced people think?
My stud usually does some light work about a half hour after breeding. This can be anything from going on the hot walker to a light ride. He has trouble keeping weight on during breeding season to I don't work him hard. We just try to get him some exercise doing something that he likes. I try not to have to push him too hard but we have had him cover a mare then thrown him in the trailer to go rope some steers.
