I am hoping for some advice *sigh* I have a 23 yr old stallion who I am trying to teach to ground collect. We do not have a phantom. He is not a happy camper lol He has never been collected at all to my knowledge.
Today, we teased him, he got a good erection I followed all the instructions for ground collection to a tee and he got mad and knocked the AV out of my hands before it was all the way on. I tried again, he let me get it all the way on and he turned around to look at me like I was crazy and again he started kicking and knocked the AV out of my hands.
I know stallions have preferences. How do I experiment with his likes without him hurting me or getting so angry with me he won't cooperate?
Any other advice? There is NO ONE in our area to help!
Have 12 year old , used as stud since 2 yr old...all live cover with wonderful libido.... trained him to phantom( it took sometime), but actually ground collected him the first 2 X because he had been taught from the beginning to keep all 4 on the ground except when covering live mares.... had him up againest phantom with live mare on the other side for encoragement..... slipped Missouri AV on him and we did collect quickly both times ( 150 cc- 62 billion sperm gel free , and finally got him up on phantom 3rd time after some frustration and time ... alot of years to change good habits to simply different ways to collect... go slow , be gentle, always keep your eye on him , but patience will win out. AND don't make eye contact directly with him during process and praise the heck out fo him when you get him each step closer to procedure. He know knows what blow up doll is for...but some will refuse phantom over live . How many people do you have helping and do you get a mare close eough to him to help out visually and for scent??
AND AV hAS TO BE JUST RIGHT DEPENDING ON HIS SIZE ETC... SOME LIKE IT TIGHTER AND WARMER AND LUBED WELL...JUST HAVE TO FIND OUT WHATHE LIKES.
