I have a question, this weekend I put a saddle on my boy who is 3yrs, for the first time. He did good, did the rodeo thing, then calmed down took saddle off, put it back on... took it off.. lunged him.... ect. My question is, it seemed to get him really really excited, he even dropped.... why would he do this over a saddle...? Any ideas anyone..? Thanks

Some stallions don't need any reason to drop...I guess it would depend on when he dropped, it's not uncommon for a stallion or a gelding to relax and drop during grooming...

If he dropped while he was rodeo-ing around...I would guess that perhaps his testosterone level increased when he was bucking as a result of either fear or anger..although I've never had that happen..

Or he could have caught a whiff of someone interesting in the air...Maybe that pad you used carried a scent with it.

I don't know, it was the same pad I used for my mare, but when I put it on him, he did the small noise like he does when I try to clean his sheath.. I really can't describe that sound... but no when he did his rodeo thing, he went back up... I am proud of him though, he took to the saddle really well after a short bit. I could put it on him and take it off with out too much fuss.. thanks

I know the sound/squeal your talking about...some stallions can be really sensitive to touch...you touch them and they react as if another horse was touching them..

That's great that he took to the saddle without any problems, congratulations...

As far as his sensitivity towards touching...just make a habit of going all over his body with your hands every couple of days.
