My stallion is very good to handle and ride however he screams and drops whenever I lead him through an aisle with horses in their stalls, lead or ride him around horses in their paddocks or when we go to a new place. He is quiet if the other horse is being ridden whether its a gelding or a mare, he may be interested, but he performs as normal. What should I do to correct him? He doesn't seem to know what is a breeding situation and whats not. Last night I led him back and forth through our mare aisle and he screamed and dropped and I would yank on the chian over his nose and yell at him. It seems to help however it does not stop the problem as whenever I try leading him through a new situation he screams and drops again. I want to start showing him (dressage) and the undersaddle part should not be a problem but just leading him through the barn at shows, handwalking etc are going to be a problem. HELP!

You have hit the nail on the head. He does not know when it is time to breed or time to behave. Make certain that your breeding halter is a different halter than your everyday one, including the chain and chain position. Only breed at one location on the premises and use the same routine. Never breed him away from home. After he has a clear idea of when and where he breeds, all other situations are for behaving. Bore him. Hours tied in different places and sitiuations will help him. Out last him. You do want to correct him, just be aware that he could get angry and sour if over corrected.

Every time he acts out, make him go to work. Take him back to the arena and work him, or take him out of the barn and make him trot circles. Anything that will cost him a bit of energy.Stay consistant and you can get it done.
